The ending to the TV series Superman & Lois has been labelled as ‘epic’ by fans who were also left in tears.
The superhero drama based on the beloved DC Comics characters stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane, and Jordan Elsass and Alex Garfin as their twin sons Jonathan and Jordan Kent.
Initially intended to form part of the Arrowverse’s Earth-Prime in its first season, which was developed as a spin-off of Supergirl, it was decided to keep the show separate following the cancellation of planned crossovers with Supergirl and Batwoman.
It first hit screens in 2021, running for four seasons until wrapping up this week.
The final season saw Superman continuing to go up against the mutated Bizarro, known as Doomsday, while Lex Luthor carried out his next plot, which eventually resulted in a shocking scene showing him being given the hero’s heart.
It all eventually ended with a hugely emotional finale (spoilers ahead) that saw Superman defeat Lex, who was then sent to prison for life.

In a flash-forward, Superman was then shown continuing protecting the world over the next 32 years however after the twins grow up, married and have children of their own, Lois eventually dies of cancer.
Years later Clark then also dies of heart failure, but they reunite in the afterlife.
‘Suddenly, it came to me what life is all about: Joy. Hope. Forgiveness. Friendship. Love,’ he said in his final moments.
Soon after watching the finale fans, who have helped the season pick up a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, shared their verdict.

‘The finale literally made me cry. Greatest comic book show ever, best Superman ever. Best Lois Lane ever. I’m gonna miss this show so much,’ Isaac posted on X.
‘Watched the series finale of Superman & Lois, and while the main plot was rushed a bit, I thought the show ended beautifully. By the end of the episode, I was bawling. I’m going to miss this show so much,’ Anthony shared.
‘I just finished the Superman & Lois finale. (Actually I finished like 5 minutes ago, and I cannot stop crying.) There is only one word I can think of to describe it: perfection. Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch will go down in history as the best Clark Kent and Lois Lane,’ user DoctorDisco added.

Explaining the decision to end the series with the death of the two main characters, showrunner Todd Helbing said that ‘everyone was extremely supportive’.
‘The CW had one thought, which actually really helped. It was just a small note. I don’t remember what it was, but it basically led to that scene with Clark and Lois in the farmhouse that tees up [the flash-forward], and we just had to reframe it slightly,’ he told TV Line.
‘Generally, everybody had the same reaction. We got a lot of texts and emails of people reading the script and bawling their eyes out on planes. One of our execs said the passenger next to her on the flight was like, ‘Are you OK?’ So that’s really rewarding.
‘It’s what we were going for, to have an ending that people could think about for a while.’
Superman & Lois is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
