Sum 41 have cancelled their remaining Australian farewell tour dates after frontman Deryck Whibley contracted pneumonia.
The frontman, 44, nicknamed Bizzy D, and bandmates Jason McCaslin, Dave Baksh, Thomas Thacker, and Frank Zummo, were on their final tour ever, but Australian dates have now been cancelled following Whibley’s illness.
‘It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce our 2024 Australian tour is unable to proceed,’ the band shared in a statement on social media according to multiple outlets.
The statement – which has since seemingly been deleted – continued: ‘We were beyond excited to deliver this tour from December 4 – December 12, and connect with our Aussie fans once more.
‘Now that we’re here though, and under the guidance and direction of multiple Australian doctors, it’s clear that Deryck is too unwell to perform. We understand and appreciate your disappointment – we’re gutted too.’
The statement continued: ‘The good news is Good Things Festival is still going ahead in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane this weekend with an incredible line-up of local and international acts. We can’t be there, but get along for us and have the best time.’

In Too Deep hitmakers announced in May last year they were breaking up after 27 years together, but would release album Heaven :x: Hell and embark on a final farewell tour in 2024 before doing so.
The band’s final ever show will be at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena in January 2025 and it is unclear if the Canadian leg of the tour next month is still happening, though dates are still up on their website.
This cancellation follows the band’s earlier decision to scrap their December 4 Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley Music Hall Show, also because of Whibley’s illness.
They stated at the time: ‘Unfortunately, we have to make the difficult decision to cancel tonight’s show in Brisbane due to Deryck being diagnosed with pneumonia. He is receiving the best possible local care.’

Announcing their split last year – without giving a reason – the band wrote on social media: ‘Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives.
‘We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in every way. It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear this from us first.
‘Sum 41 will be disbanding. We will still be finishing all of our current tour dates this year, and we’re looking forward to releasing our final album “Heaven :x: Hell”, along with a final worldwide headlining tour to celebrate. Details will be announced as soon as we have them.
‘For now, we look forward to seeing all of you on the road and are excited for what the future will bring for each of us.
‘Thank you for the last 27 years of Sum 41.’
Sum 41 first started out as a NOFX cover band in 1996, but rocketed to fame with their debut album All Killer No Filler in 2001, achieving mainstream success with its first single Fat Lip, followed by In Too Deep and Motivation.
Founding members included Deryck, Richard Roy, Steve Jocz and Jon Marshall – but the group underwent some line-up changes before signing their first record deal three years later.
