The Simpsons strikes again as Mr Burns’ evil space plan is actually happening-Ruth Lawes-Entertainment – Metro
The cartoon has made countless predictions.

The Simpsons has once again blown Nostradamus out of the water with another spot-on prediction.
It’s hard to keep track of everything the cartoon has foretold but it has anticipated huge historical events including Donald Trump’s presidency and aspects of the Covid pandemic.
This time, The Simpsons has foreseen the creation of The European Space Agency’s (ESA) sun blocker 29 years in advance.
Today, scientists are set to launch synchronised satellites and spacecrafts which will form to create a solar eclipse in March.
The Proba-3 mission’s aim is to give astronomers a greater understanding of the outermost layer of the sun’s atmosphere and space weather.
In 1995 episode Who Shot Mr Burns? Part One, Mr Burns creates a similar device – but for nefarious motivations.

He blocks the sun to force Springfield residents to use his Nuclear Power Plant energy leading to widespread outrage and a gunman to shoot him in an alley.
A very different outcome is hoped from the intelligence gathered from the ESA’s sun blocker.
Scientists will use information about space weather to provide warnings for certain power outages and communication blackouts on Earth.
In an interview with Metro, The Simpsons writer Al Jean previously chalked up the show’s knack for foreshadowing the future as ‘educated guesses’.

‘Most of the other things like Trump being President or Brazil winning the World Cup are educated guesses,’ he said.
‘Trump was considering being President back in the 90s. We wanted Germany to win because we went to Brazil to lose and Germany was the next best bet for the World Cup.
‘So, a lot of the things that we predicted are just, unfortunately, things you could see coming.
However, he did acknowledge one scene that seemingly predicted the horror 9/11 terror attack that was ‘too eerie for words.’

He explained: ‘There was one, I didn’t work on this, but it was just too eerie for words.
‘In the 90s, we did an episode about the World Trade Centre. There was a handbook held up that said, “New York on $9 a day”. Then it had the two Towers, so it looked like a 9/11.
‘That was completely coincidental, that was bizarre. I don’t know, I can’t explain that.’
Other events predicted by The Simpsons include the World Cup final, the Titanic submersible tragedy last year and Lady Gaga’s performance at the Super Bowl Halftime show.
The Simpsons is available to stream on Disney Plus.
