Anita Rani sent a powerful message as she arrived at the Sky Women in Film and TV Awards.

The radio broadcaster, 47, took a swipe at Gregg Wallace with her outfit choice as allegations of misconduct on and off-set by the MasterChef star are investigated.

Rani beamed as she showed off a slogan T-shirt dress emblazoned with ‘Middle class woman of a certain age’ in bold pink letters.

She teamed the black item with a blazer, which she held open to ensure the phrase was on full display.

Anita also wore a patterned pair of tights and complementary heels for the prestigious ceremony, which took place today at London’s Hilton Park Lane, celebrating the work and achievements of women both in front of and behind the camera.

Of course, her shirt was a nod to remarks Wallace himself made recently when addressing the accusations made against him by several former co-stars and colleagues.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, the 60-year-old presenter claimed the complaints about his behaviour came from ‘a handful of middle-class women of a certain age’, sparking further backlash from the public and celebrities.

Speaking out this week, Rani herself shared a quote that was attributed to writer Stella Duffy.

The quote read: ‘It’s important to remember that middle-class women of a certain age grew up as working-class girls who were and are, fierce as f**k. With long memories.’

Rani added in her caption: ‘Can’t take the credit for this one. It’s taken from @stellduffy But I like the cut of her jib.’

Wallace later issued an apology, saying: ‘I want to apologise for any offence that I caused with my post yesterday and any upset I may have caused to a lot of people.

‘I wasn’t in a good headspace when I posted it, I’ve been under a huge amount of stress, a lot of emotion. I felt very alone, under siege yesterday when I posted it.

‘It’s obvious to me I need to take some time out, now while this investigation is underway. I hope you understand, and I do hope you will accept this apology.’

His response came after Downing Street branded his reaction to the accusations ‘inappropriate and misogynistic’.

Meanwhile, Wallace’s lawyers have said the allegations made against him are ‘entirely false’, denying that he has engaged in behaviour ‘of a sexually harassing nature’.

Wallace faces allegations from 13 people across a range of shows over a 17-year period.

BBC News reported that one woman said he touched her bottom after an event and another said he pressed his crotch against her while filming on a different show.

Many have come forward with their experiences, leading to Wallace stepping down from his hit BBC cooking show after 20 years while historical misconduct complaints are externally reviewed by the producer, Banijay UK.

In the meantime, it has been confirmed that the Celebrity MasterChef Christmas Cook-Off special, starring the likes of Strictly’s Amy Dowden, will no longer air due to the ‘current circumstances’.

A BBC spokesperson said: ‘We take any issues that are raised with us seriously and we have robust processes in place to deal with them. We are always clear that any behaviour which falls below the standards expected by the BBC will not be tolerated.

‘Where an individual is contracted directly by an external production company, we share any complaints or concerns with that company and we will always support them when addressing them.’
