The Gavin and Stacey Christmas special is almost here, and we finally have our first spoiler for the final episode.

Fans have been going wild with their own theories about how stars and co-creators James Corden and Ruth Jones will bring the beloved sitcom to a close.

Now, Steffan Rhodri – best known as coach driver Dave ‘Coaches’ Gooch – has given us a preview of how the last ever scene will come together.

‘My character Dave is a bit of an outsider,’ he exclusively told Metro. ‘But they planned it so that with the last scene we did, which is the ending, we were all together and it was very touching.’

Even without knowing the full context, it seems the final scene could be a real tearjerker.

For Steffan, it was lovely being back on set after missing the last Christmas special in 2019.

‘I can’t tell you anything about the Christmas special other than I’m in it. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I didn’t do the one five years ago so it’s 17 years since I’ve done it,’ he said.

‘It was like putting on a pair of old trousers. It was really lovely to hang out with them again.’

Dave Coaches has been a huge part of the sitcom since the beginning, ever since he laid down the law for his vehicle – ‘fags and weed, glue and speed, but I draws the line at crack’ will forever be etched in our minds.

‘With Dave I realised that I was imitating an uncle of mine,’ the actor said of his accidental inspiration. ‘He did [drive a coach]! And he had a moustache. He’s quite a character. When he realised I’d based Dave on him he was quite chuffed.’

Although Steffan has given us a clue for the finale, so much is still up in the air – including whether or not Dave, Bryan or Jason will ever reveal what really happened on the infamous fishing trip.

Stars have been snapped filming various scenes, but the cast and crew have kept filming details a secret with reports claiming they’ve been told to keep their scripts hidden and stay on ‘high alert’ when it comes to leaks.

However, back in October James himself dropped a hint at what’s to come, and we’ll have our tissues at the ready!

During an appearance at the Global Gala Gift on October 28, the talk show host, 46, teased a funeral.

According to Hello!, he reportedly told the audience that he had been editing the show that day, and that the scenes were ‘hard to watch’, adding:’But was there a funeral? Maybe yes. Maybe no!’

The Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special airs at Christmas Day at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
