It’s the most encouraging update yet…

Mike Myers has issued a long-awaited update on the return of the Austin Powers series – and things are looking groovy, baby!
The Canadian actor, 61, starred as the International Man of Mystery, Dr Evil, Fat Bastard and Goldmember in the satirical spy comedy that released three endlessly quotable movies between 1997 to 2002.
Over two decades later, the screenstar has made clear his plans to return to the iconic role at the Vulture Festival.
In a new interview, when asked if Austin Powers truly was coming back, he replied: ‘It’s ah…I would be surprised if it didn’t,’ he told TooFab.
So there we have it, the news fans have all been waiting for. Especially since it’s something the Shrek star has been cryptically teasing for a while now.
Earlier this year, he non-committally told reporters: ‘I can neither confirm nor deny the existence or non-existence of such a project,’ while adding that there were ‘absolutely’ more stories to tell from this universe.

What’s more, the rest of the team seems to have expressed interest as well over the years.
Prior to the pandemic, director Jay Roach shared: ‘You know, [Mike Myers and I] talk about it [a fourth film] every time we get together.’
He caveated that if they found the ‘right idea’ he would be ‘good to go’, saying that directing the James Bond parody movies was the ‘break of a lifetime’ for him.
Then, in 2022, Elizabeth Hurley, who played Vanessa Kensington in the first two movies (International Man of Mystery and The Spy Who Shagged Me) shared her enthusiasm to reunite with the fellow actor.
‘‘Mike is a genius. It would be wonderful to do something with him again,’ she told People at the time.
How her character will return is another question entirely considering she self-destructed after being uncovered as a robot. But anything is possible in the world of the absurd.
The whisperings of another sequel have been knocking about for several years now. In 2018, Mike explained that the creative process was getting delayed as he raised his three children, at the time all seven and under.
‘[The films] take a long time to write,’ he added.

There’s no doubt that the latest reassurance is the most positive one yet – with the ball clearly rolling.
As for the timeline, it remains to be seen when the next movie will come out and whether Beyonce will reprise her role as Foxxy Cleopatra from the film movie, Goldmember.
One thing’s for sure, the next installment will be a money-spinner with the original trilogy grossing a whopping total of $473million (£370m) at the box office.
Although there are still question marks over Austin Powers final adventure, fans finally have confirmation over the next movie for Mike’s other famous role, Shrek.
After months of hints that something may be on the horizon, Universal’s DreamWorks Animations confirmed that Shrek 5 would be released in 2026 with co-stars Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz also returning.
The 2026 movie will come out 16 years after the fourth film in the animated series, Shrek Forever After, so there’s plenty for fans to be excited about.
Although many have already expressed their concerns over the Walt Dohrn directed film being absolutely terrible. Only time will tell.
