Horror icon Adrienne Barbeau rose to fame starring in a host of genre films in the 1980s, including The Fog, Swamp Thing and Escape From New York.

It was in her work with director John Carpenter that she is perhaps best remembered – most notably for her role as Radio DJ Stevie Wayne in The Fog.

After making her start on Broadway (following a brief stint as a go-go dancer ‘for the mob’), she found her breakthrough role on the sitcom Maude, starring as the titular character’s daughter.

Meeting master of horror John Carpenter on the set of his TV movie Someone’s Watching Me! in 1978, they were married a year later.

In addition to her prestigious horror output, Adrienne also starred in madcap action comedy The Cannonball Run and as Catwoman in Batman: The Animated Series.

And, still sporting a mane of dark brown curls, the actor looks as though she stepped right out of the 1980s.

She was spotted this week in Los Angeles wearing a grey patterned cardigan, denim jeans and ruby red cowboy boots.

She also wore a pair of thick-rimmed glasses and accessorised with a tan toe bag as she hauled about a maroon piece of luggage.

After being spotted at the airport, Adrienne was then pictured enjoying dinner with friends at a local Chinese restaurant.

Making her Broadway debut in the 1960s in the chorus of Fiddler on the Roof, and then being nominated for a Tony Award for her performance as Rizzo in Grease, Adrienne’s career has rarely slowed down since.

Five decades later, and she remains as busy as ever, with a healthy career in television, movies and videogames.

As one of cult cinema’s most recognisable faces (and voices), Adrienne also appeared in works such as Creepshow, Dexter, Tales of Halloween and American Horror Stories.

She also made a voice cameo in Carpenter’s The Thing – where she voiced the computer – and played a secretary in a deleted scene for the 2007 remake of Halloween, directed by Rob Zombie.

Her voice work is just as prolific, including a major role in Batman: The Animated Series, and in video games God of War III, Mad Max, Fallout: 76 and Spider-Man 2.

This year, she voiced Silk Spectre in the two-part animated adaptation of the comic book Watchmen.

She has two films in post-production – horror films The Demon Detective and The Pitch-Fork, the latter of which also features late horror giant Tony Todd.

Adrienne and the horror director were divorced in 1984, shortly after the birth of their son, John ‘Cody’ Carpenter.

In 1992, she married playwright and actor Billy Van Zandt. The pair had two twin boys together, before filing for divorce in 2018.

Outside of acting, Adrienne is also a successful author, having written a memoir, titled There Are Worse Things I Could Do, and a series of supernatural novels.
