Tom Selleck has opened up about life after Blue Bloods, sharing the surprising role that he would love to revisit next.
The 79-year-old has been a staple of our screens for decades, thanks to stints in Magnum PI, Friends, Rockford Files and Las Vegas.
He has also stolen the show in films including Killers, Runaway, Meet the Robinsons, Three Men and a Baby – and the Three Men and a Little Lady sequel.
His most recent role came as the iconic Frank Reagan in police procedural drama Blue Bloods, with the series finale set to air on CBS this week.
When asked if he would be keen to star in a spin-off of the hit program, which follows the many members of the fictional Reagan family, he shared that he would rather reprise another one of his most popular roles.
‘I’m open to suggestions because I love Frank Reagan, but nobody’s really asked,’ he told Parade. ‘I don’t see him retiring and going off somewhere. If he goes off to a small town, I’d rather do more Jesse Stone movies.

‘It would be an interesting challenge because Jesse is older now. There’ve been quite a few years between shows. That doesn’t mean he isn’t a viable character. Everywhere I go one of the things I get asked is, “When can I see another Jesse Stone?”’
Tom first starred as Jesse Stone in a series of TV movies, focusing on the police chief of an area called Paradise, in Massachusetts – the officer was fired from the LAPD over a drinking problem, before being handed the new position.

The first flick, 2005’s Stone Cold, showed the detective investigating a string of murders and rapes in the area, with Viola Davis and Thomas Gibson also in the cast.
He reprised his role many times over the years, impressing viewers in Night Passage, Death in Paradise, Sea Change, Thin Ice, No Remorse, Innocents Lost and Benefit of the Doubt.
The last film, Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise, was released in 2015.

Another role that Tom is often approached about is his efforts as Dr Richard Burke on Friends – playing the older boyfriend of Monica Geller (Courteney Cox).
Despite appearing in less than a dozen episodes, it’s clear that he became a firm favorite with those watching on from home.

Unpacking the character, he explained that he was originally slated for a much shorter appearance before it was extended at the last minute.
‘It was a lovely experience, something I didn’t see coming,’ he continued. ‘They just explained this idea and you had to make a leap of faith. They didn’t have a script or anything.

‘I remember I was supposed to do three shows, and on the third show at the table read, somebody said, “Oh, that’s right, this is your last show. I wish you could come back.” I said, “Well, nobody asked me.” So that turned into 10 shows.’
Lifting the lid on his favorite roles throughout his career, he named Magnum PI and Blue Bloods, before adding: ‘Certainly, Three Men and a Baby was a favorite. It was the no. 1 movie in the world.
‘I’m very proud of Quigley Down Under, which has passed the test of time and is still very, very popular. That was a big Western and he was clearly an iconic hero. I don’t mind saying I was a little anxious to play a part that maybe John Wayne could have done better.’
