The Traitors season 3 is almost upon us and Claudia Winkleman is promising something big.

The new series is coming to BBC on New Year’s Day and the knitwear-loving host has promised to kick 2025 off with a bang when a new group of people head into the famous castle.

After two seasons, viewers would be forgiven for thinking they’ve seen it all, from Diane’s famous Ross reveal to the usual brutal, backstabbing treachery, but producers are keeping everyone on their toes.

‘Like any good murder mystery, the plot is always full of twists and turns,’ she teased. ‘There’s one twist this year which will hopefully have viewers on the edge of their seat.’

And despite having both UK series and all the spin-offs to delve into, Claudia doesn’t think the incoming crop will be in a better position.

She explained: ‘The new contestants can watch previous series, but that doesn’t mean it will necessarily help them… How can it? Every series has a whole new bunch of players, with different minds, and different interpretations of the game.’

However, the Strictly Come Dancing presenter is refusing to give too much away, besides hinting at ‘some really exciting’ changes for the third season.

‘I would love to tell you all about series three, but then I will get fired so I can tell you absolutely nothing. What I will tell you is that things are different this year,’ she said.

‘There are some really exciting things that have changed, which keeps everyone on the toes and feeds into the central premise of trust! I can’t wait for everyone to see.’

Missions have been given a shakeup too, and the 52-year-old presenter insisted they will have more of an impact on the game as a whole.

‘The missions in series three are really, really exciting. I love the missions and I really hope that people love them,’ she added. ‘They keep getting bigger and better, and this year have more stakes in the bigger picture of the game than ever before.’

What Claudia is willing to dish the dirt on is her own outfit plans, although she insisted a lot of her getups for the show don’t make it home with her.

‘Definitely more knitwear, quite a lot of tweed, and I sleep in fingerless gloves. Expect more tweed, more big sweaters and at one point I try and look like an actual yeti,’ she quipped.

‘I’ve snuck home a couple of pairs of gloves, but sadly most of it, I have to give it a little kiss whilst not wearing lipstick, and send it back.’

The upcoming season promises to be a special one, and Claudia thinks the unpredictability and secrecy is what makes it tick.

‘I don’t know why people love The Traitors. I know why I love it, and that’s because the game is so clever, and you can never predict what’s going to happen,’ she said.

‘Watching people work other people out, is fascinating. The other thing that’s so interesting, is that we’re told all our lives to trust our guts, but The Traitors suggests that maybe our guts don’t know as much as we think they do.’

The Traitors starts New Years Day at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
