Chris McCausland has admitted he is ‘emotionally weak’ ahead of the Strictly Come Dancing final.

The comedian, 47, has made it to the last episode of this season of the BBC dancing series with professional dancer Dianne Buswell, 35.

This weekend they will be competing against Tasha Ghouri and Aljaz Skorjanec, Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola and JB Gill and Lauren Oakley for the Glitterball Trophy.

Before then though, they have been hard at work in the rehearsal room ahead of performing three dances during the live show.

But in an update shared on social media with fans, Chris revealed he was currently feeling quite emotional.

While speaking with Dianne, Chris was asked what had happened when they were practising their waltz again.

‘We learnt the steps and we did quite well…’ he said before she cut him off and revealed what actually unfolded.

‘Chris got very emotional again,’ she shared.

‘I can’t help but get emotional when I look at your face during that because you just look like you’re enjoying it so much,’ she continued.

Admitting how he’d felt in the moment, Chris explained: ‘I’ll be honest, I got a bit emotional before…I’m weak at the minute, I’m emotionally weak. It doesn’t take much to set me off. We did the waltz before and the way it works on Saturday, we’re going to do our Couple’s Choice, then we’ll do our Show Dance then we’ll do the waltz.

‘We rehearsed the waltz, and I realised that this is going to be the last dance that we do, and I imagined it all being over on Saturday and it being the last time we dance on the show and it upset me.’

Dianne then said the moment had also left ‘a tear in my eye too’.

Reflecting on how far they’d come, both admitted they never thought they would get to this point of the competition.

After thanking fans for their support, Dianne explained why she thought Chris should win.

‘I think Chris really deserves it and we’ve shown things don’t need to be perfect to be successful,’ she said.

‘Perfectionism is crippling, and it stops you from trying or doing things,’ he added.

Speaking to Metro last week, Chris defiantly declared that ‘if Strictly is purely a dance competition give it to Tasha’ after he was subjected to trolls questioning his place in the series.

However, he said the critics ‘don’t really bother me’ and he was instead focusing on the ‘overwhelmingly incredible and beautiful’ support they’d received.

Although the pair hadn’t discussed the possibility of winning at that point – they instead wanted to focus on making it to the final first – Chris said he felt like they won the minute they were ‘consistent and challenging preconceptions’.

‘We had done what I wanted to do and everything else then became a bonus. I didn’t think we’d get to Blackpool and every week is an extra bonus,’ he added.

The 2024 Strictly Come Dancing finale airs on Saturday at 6pm on BBC One.
