It’s been one of the best Game Awards events for years, with the first trailers for The Witcher 4, Naughty Dog’s new game, and much more.

The Game Awards are over for another year and we’d have to say that was probably the best the show has ever been, in its whole 10 year history, in terms of the event itself being enjoyable to watch and the sheer number of interesting and unexpected trailer reveals.

You can find links to all the top stories from the award ceremony below, which we’ll add to as the day goes on – as there’s an impressive amount to get through.

As usual though, these sorts of showcases are just as interesting for what they didn’t feature, as for what was shown, and predictably there was no sign of either the Nintendo Switch 2 or GTA 6.

As we suspected, Nintendo had almost no presence at The Game Awards this year, their only official involvement being a paid ad for Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom. Although the more impassioned advert for their games was made by the director of Sony’s Astro Bot, during his acceptance speech for Game of the Year.

Surprisingly, Xbox was underrepresented at the event and while there was a trailer for Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds 2 that was really all, except for a stealth advert for Indiana Jones And The Great Circle, which saw no less than Harrison Ford appear on stage to announce one of the award winners.

(The game itself was not eligible for anything on the night, as it came out after the nomination period – instead it’ll have to wait until next year’s awards ceremony.)

If the night belonged to anyone it was Sony, with four award wins for Astro Bot, including Game of the Year, and the announcement of Naughty Dog’s new game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, as the final big reveal at the end of the night.

Why wasn’t GTA 6 Trailer 2 at The Game Awards 2024?

As for GTA 6, it’s now more impossible than ever to say what’s going on. The chances of the second trailer debuting this year now seem remote, especially as Rockstar usually gives good warning of when new trailers will premiere.

A more than year’s wait between the trailers seems very worrying, for those concerned the game may be delayed into 2026, especially because a second trailer would be expected to reveal the release date, or at least month.

However, Rockstar is highly unpredictable, so however remote it may be, there is still a chance for the trailer to appear this year – but at this point we certainly wouldn’t bet on it.

As for what was announced, there might not have been anything on Resident Evil 9 or Tomb Raider (or Half-Life 3, quelle surprise) but we did get a first look at The Witcher 4, a new Elden Ring game, Naughty Dog’s next project, and the follow-up to It Takes Two and The Last Guardian.

What’s more, all but The Witcher 4 featured at least some gameplay footage, as did most of the other trailers on the night, which is a notable improvement on previous Game Awards events.
