After more than a decade of waiting, it has been confirmed Malcolm in the Middle is returning to our screens.

The family sitcom, which followed a dysfunctional working class family in the US, ran for seven seasons from 2000 until 2006.

But now a four episode revival has officially been ordered by Disney Plus, who has done God’s work for us, according to Variety.

Original cast members, Malcolm actor Frankie Muniz, his father Hal, played by Breaking Bad legend Bryan Cranston, and his mum Lois, portrayed by Jane Kaczmarek, have signed up for the reboot.

The logline reads: ‘Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.’

Disney released no further details, including its release date, but its president of branded TV Ayo Davis teased the series would have ‘the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved — along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.’

Speculation the show had been reboot had been swirling over the past year, with Frankie even fuelling the flames on podcast Bialik Breakdown.

The 39-year-old recalled how after watching the show from start to finish, he then posted a tweet that read: ‘I would love to know where Malcolm and his family are now.’

He continued: ‘At that time it was 10 years later. Now it’s almost been 20 years since the show ended. Everyone was kind of like, “Yeah that’d be so great.”

‘And then Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek and all the cast started kind of sending emails together and everybody was like, “We’ve got to do this. We’ve got to do it.”’

Bryan, 68, also previously made it clear he was all in for a Malcolm in the Middle reboot.

‘I love that show. To me, it was the comedic flip side to Breaking Bad because of the quality of the writing,’ he said.

‘[The show’s creator] Linwood Boomer is really considering it. And he said — just like [Breaking Bad creator] Vince Gilligan would say — if there was a great idea that everybody got excited about, he would really consider doing it.’

Bryan added that the cast were ‘all onboard’ with the interview with EW.
