The first clip from the new Gavin and Stacey Christmas 2024 finale has been unearthed at the end of the 2019 special.

The BBC has confirmed that the fresh look of the beloved British sitcom is nestled after the credits of the five-year-old episode.

Gavin and Stacey is returning to screens with the original cast including co-creators James Corden and Ruth Jones who play Nessa and Smithy.

The show originally ran from 2007 to 2010 before returning for a surprise festive special in 2019 which ended on a cliffhanger as Nessa proposed to Smithy.

Now fans will finally get the answers they have been looking for as we enjoy one last look into the lives of Mathew Horne’s Gavin Shipman and Joanna Page’s Stacey West – from Essex and Barry Island respectively – and their chaotic friends and families.

Other stars returning include Rob Brydon, Larry Lamb, and Joanna Page.

The brand new 40-second clip features Nessa (Ruth) pedalling a florally decorated cycle rickshaw, out of breath, with an elderly couple sitting in the back taking in the seaside views as inspirational music plays.

Nessa, dressed in her classic black leather fit, then parks up, saying: ‘Right that’s your lot you’ll have to walk the rest. Mini-golf that way, Marco’s over there.’

When the couple try to protest, Nessa shuts them down, bluntly adding: ‘No, I’m done. That’ll be 75 quid’.

The woman complains: ‘What? But we’ve only been on a couple of minutes!’

As Nessa swoops in with a scathing monologue: ‘Love, I’m just speaking my truth. I find your abusive tone very triggering. You’re damaging my mental health,’ as the woman tries to appease her.

‘Now if I was you I’d leave it there. You got Apple Pay? I got Bluetooth in my bra,’ she adds as she points to her breasts with a straight face.

And there is plenty of excitement on social media.

‘Omg I cannot wait for Christmas,’ TikTok user Sophie W commented.

‘Already going to be brilliant,’ sophie agreed.

‘Can’t wait for this,’ Kirsty Cook praised.

Notably, fans also pointed out that this secretly planted teaser is not set in the winter – giving a hint as to what time of year the new episode will take place.

All we know so far is what the synopsis has told us, reading: ‘In Barry, Bryn’s packing the Picasso in readiness for a trip to Essex.

‘Soon enough, Gavin, Stacey, and the rest of their family and friends are seen in high spirits with another get together at Pam and Mick’s house.

‘This time it looks like Bryn will be giving limbo a go. Clearly, Pam and Mick are playing host this time around, but why are they partying?’

It’s also revealed that in Billericay, Pam is ‘stressing out at the prospect of playing hostess, not helped by a newly retired Mick practising his golf swings in the living room and there have been more ups and downs in Pete and Dawn’s relationship’.

Earlier this month, fans got a first look at the Christmas special with a series of images of all our favourite characters including Nessa whose fingers are blurred so as to not reveal her proposal answer.

James has previously said the episode is ‘hard to watch’ and told Big Issue it was the ‘culmination of a 20-year love story.’

He added: ‘Hopefully it shows, if nothing else, that love is complicated and messy and for everyone.’

Meanwhile, various co-stars have confirmed this truly is the end.

‘I would love to come back every year, but I genuinely don’t think there will ever be any more and I can really see why,’ Joanna recently told Radio Times.

And in an interview with Metro Steffan Rhodri – best known as coach driver Dave ‘Coaches’ Gooch – gave a peek into the last-ever scene.

‘My character Dave is a bit of an outsider,’ he said.

‘But they planned it so that with the last scene we did, which is the ending, we were all together and it was very touching.’

‘I can’t tell you anything about the Christmas special other than I’m in it. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I didn’t do the one five years ago so it’s 17 years since I’ve done it,’ he added.

Gavin and Stacey is available to stream on BBC iPlayer. The Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special airs at Christmas Day at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
