Activision is letting anyone play Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 this week, via a free trial featuring a range of maps and modes.

After last year’s widely panned Modern Warfare 3, Call Of Duty feels like it’s back on the upswing with Black Ops 6.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, the latest instalment boasts new movement mechanics and a return to the classic prestige system in multiplayer. It’s gone down well both critically and commercially, becoming the fastest selling Call Of Duty ever.

But if you haven’t yet tried Black Ops 6 yet, Activision is offering everyone a chance to give it a shot for free – no doubt in the chase for last minute Christmas sales.

When does the Black Ops 6 free trial start?

The free trial kicks off on Friday, December 13 across Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. While an exact time hasn’t been released by Activision, based on the prior launch times for the beta, it will likely be available from 6pm GMT in the UK.

The trial lasts for seven days and will conclude on Friday, December 20, presumably also at 6pm GMT.

What’s included in the free trial?

The trial is surprisingly generous (Activision)

The trial will offer free access to only the multiplayer and Zombies modes, so you’re out of luck if you were hoping to try the campaign.

According to Activision’s announcement post, six multiplayer maps and modes will be available in the trial – as listed below.

Black Ops 6 free trial maps and modes

Maps

Racket

Hacienda
Nuketown Holiday
Extraction
Hideout
Heirloom

Modes

Team Deathmatch
Hardpoint
Domination
Kill Confirmed
Kill Order
Prop Hunt

Among these modes is Prop Hunt, which is a silly spin on hide and seek, where players have to blend into the environment disguised as everyday objects, while the opposing team hunts them down.

As for Zombies, the free trial will grant access to the Liberty Falls and Terminus maps across standard and directed modes. The latter is a guided version of the Zombies experience designed to ease in new players.

Will trial progress carry over to the full version of Black Ops 6?

At the time of writing, Activision has not yet announced whether progress from the free trial will carry over if you purchase the full game. Considering that didn’t happen during the beta though, there’s a good chance that you might have to start from scratch.

You can try out Zombies too (Activision)
