Strictly Come Dancing winner and Olympian Louis Smith has announced the arrival of his second child with girlfriend Charlie Bruce.

Louis, 35 – who was awarded an MBE in 2013 – began dating Charlie, a British jazz dancer from Leicestershire, in November 2017.

The pair had their first child, Marley Valentina, in February 2021.

Louis is best known as a gymnastics champion, having earned several medals at the Olympics. In 2012, he won BBC dance show Strictly Come Dancing with professional partner Flavia Cacace.

Announcing the birth of their second child, Louis took to Instagram to share his admiration for Charlie and reveal that they’d named the baby Remi.

He wrote: ‘Remi Monroe Smith 🌍7lb 9 Been a wild ride but so happy to say mum and baby are all doing ok.

‘Charlie you are so incredible to go through what you did should be so proud. Another experience that changes and shapes you from there after. 🥰’

The pair announced they were expecting earlier this year, with Louis writing on Instagram alongside an ultrasound photo: ‘So nice we had to do it twice!’

Charlie also shared the announcement on her own Instagram page, which featured a scan photo among an arrangement of pink and blue treats..

Revealing the unborn baby’s due date, her caption read: ‘The best birthday present I could ask for 🥳👶🏻 Due 5.12.24’.

Louis added the snap to his Instagram Story with the caption: ‘Looks like we are running it back for round two’, followed by a love heart emoji and the word ‘surpriseeee’.

Congratulations are rolling in on Louis’ post announcing the birth, with many sharing their happiness for the growing family, including JLS member Aston Merrygold commenting: ‘Congratulations guys🖤’

Former Strictly professional Ian Waite commented: ‘Congratulations you gorgeous people’

As well as winning Olympic medals and the coveted Glitterball trophy, fans will know Louis as the winner of The Masked Dancer.

His win came shortly after Strictly, with Louis previously describing it as a ‘very full-on year’, however, he noted that venturing onto the dancefloor was a great way of ‘pulling down the tensions of the Olympics’.

He’s repeatedly praised his girlfriend for being his biggest supporter, saying that while being a dad is ‘absolutely amazing’, it hasn’t been all easy.

‘That’s not to get confused with, “It’s been easy”, because it’s been difficult. It’s been challenging. Me and the girlfriend both found it hard.’

But, Louis – who used to date Lucy Mecklenburgh – believes the hard times have been ‘made easier by the love and the dedication and motivation that comes from having a child’.

He’s also keen for his children to follow in his footsteps.

Louis – who took home medals at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Olympics – joked about toddler Marley: ‘I would probably encourage her to pick a sport, which is probably going to pay more money!’
