The possibility of a sequel to the beloved 2006 romantic comedy The Holiday has been a hot topic among fans recently.

Now, Kate Winslet, who starred as Iris in the original film, has finally spoken out about the possibility of a sequel.

Released in 2006, the festive favourite follows Iris Simpkins (Kate Winslet) and Amanda Woods (Cameron Diaz) who swap homes for the holidays to escape their own relationship issues.

But they get more than they bargain for when they both meet and fall in love with local men, with Iris meeting Miles (Jack Black), a colleague of Amanda’s ex Ethan (Edward Burns), and Amanda getting to know Iris’ brother Graham (Jude Law).

In a recent interview with Deadline promoting her new film Lee, Winslet was asked about the rumors swirling around.

‘Honestly, it’s never come up,’ she revealed. ‘I promise you.’

While Winslet dispelled rumours, she didn’t dismiss the idea entirely, leaving room for fans to hope.

‘Actually, I suppose, I’ve been quite surprised that it never came up,’ she said.

She went on to say that she thinks the film is ripe for a sequel, given how all the character’s arcs end.

Adding fuel to the speculation was Jude Law’s playful nod to his character Graham’s iconic ‘Mr. Napkin Head’ moment.

On Thursday, Jude reunited with The Holiday’s director Nancy Meyers for a get-together after receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Filming Jude at the table, The Parent Trap director said: ‘Look who I’m having lunch with today – Jude Law! Congratulations on your so well-deserved star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, that’s amazing.

‘I don’t think I’ve seen you since we wrapped The Holiday speaking of which, I’ve seen you interviewed a lot and they keep asking you if there’s going to be a sequel – what do you think?’

The actor asked Nancy to give him a second before delighting fans.

He turned and placed his napkin and glasses on his head, referencing The Holiday’s iconic Mr Napkin Head scene.

Nancy said: ‘Is that a yes, Jude?’ to which he simply moved his head around chaotically.

The Instagram post sent fans into a frenzy, with many hoping it meant a sequel was on its way.

Law, however, clarified his stance on a sequel in a separate interview with ComicBook.com. ‘That all lands in Nancy Meyers’ lap,’ he said.

‘Then it would be whether the four of us would come back. I would be curious to see what they’re all doing.’

Though no plans currently exist, it’s easy to imagine where the characters might be now.

For now, The Holiday stands alone as a Christmas classic.
