Underrated 2022 action film branded ‘best Christmas movie of the decade’-Rishma Dosani-Entertainment – Metro
Fans have branded a blood-soaked film the ‘best Christmas movie of the decade’ after it finally landed on Netflix in the UK.
Violent Night was released in 2022 and became an instant hit, with David Harbour swapping all things Stranger Things for a stint as Santa Claus.
The blockbuster follows a wealthy family battling survive after a group of mercenaries take them hostage in their estate – when things take a brutal turn, Father Christmas himself steps in to take on the bad guys.
Instead of dishing out lumps of coal, St Nick reached for dangerous and deadly weapons to dole out justice during the holidays, blessing us with a Christmas present we didn’t know we needed.
While it’s not quite the traditional tale of Father Christmas we’ve come to know and love, viewers heaped praise on David’s efforts, hailing Violent Night as a ‘must watch’ addition to their holiday plans.

MHashshashin agreed: ‘Perfect mix of die hard and home alone.’
IamThor2point0 replied: ‘Newest must watch every year movie.’
‘I absolutely love this movie. It’s action-packed, and David Harbour is brilliant as Santa,’ Wooden_Passage_2612 penned.
‘This is one of my favourite interpretations of Santa, the writing is amazing for him of how he begins as a grump, but as the film goes into an epic, action, comedy bloodbath, he starts to find this magic of rediscovering who he is again and by saving the family of from disgusting and hideous villains and he gives them what they deserved.

‘Plus, Santa chemistry with the girl is so sweet and honest, and the filmmaking is this amazing. This is pure Christmas fun and simply a blast. Merry Christmas, everyone! And have a happy new year!’
As Givingtree310 added: ‘Absolutely terrific. Best Christmas film of the last decade. I’d love a sequel.’
Thankfully, there is a sequel on the way, with Tommy previously shedding light on what more we could expect.

‘There’s stuff we left on the floor like the North Pole, Mrs. Claus, the elves,’ he told the Wrap.
‘But story-wise I think we have a really, really cool idea that expands on the world and scope, but still keeping that tone that we love from the first one.’
Lifting the lid on sequel plans, screenplay writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller told ScreenRant that they are ‘well underway’.

Josh vowed: ‘We’re closing in on trying to get a draft out, so we’re well underway.
Pat added: ‘I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. I wish we had a date to announce, but we don’t yet. But everybody really wants to get it going, so hopefully soon, we’ll have more solid information.
‘But it’s a little hard to schedule around David Harbour, currently, on account of he’s a busy man with certain other giant mega franchises that, unfortunately, seem to get scheduling priority over us, for some inexplicable reason.’
Bring it on.
