A former star of Benidorm now looks completely different to the fresh-faced young man he played.

From 2011 until 2018, Adam Gillen played Liam Conroy on the ITV sitcom, which first hit screens in 2007.

Joining the series in its fourth season, Liam was initially a tourist who visited the Spanish seaside resort to visit his father Les Conroy (Tim Healy), who worked at the all-inclusive Solana resort.

He later picked up a job there himself as a maintenance worker, but went on to chase a career in the Blow ‘n’ Go Salon.

Before joining Benidorm, Liam had graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2007.

Best known on screens for his role in the comedy series, he’s also appeared in Oliver Twist, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Fresh Meat and Prisoners’ Wives.

His most recent role was in the BBC thriller series Boat Story alongside Joanna Scanlan last year.

The actor, who previously performed in several shows at Shakespeare’s Globe theatre, is also currently The Emcee at the West End production of Cabaret.

However, Liam now looks completely unorganisable to the young red-haired worker he played.

His hair is now dyed blonde for his latest role and while he is currently clean-shaven, last year the 39-year-old shared a series of snaps on social media with a blonde beard too.

Although it’s now been six years since Benidorm wrapped up, Adam is engaged to one of his former co-stars – Laila Zaidi.

The 31-year-old actress played Cyd across five episodes in season 10 of the series.

It was during a holiday to Croatia last year the couple became engaged, with Laila writing on Instagram: ‘A whole week of being a diiiirty flirttttyyy thirty FIANCÉ !!!!!!!’

During its nine-year run, Benidorm starred actors including Steve Pemberton, Siobhan Finneran, Johnny Vegas, Sheridan Smith, Hannah Waddingham and Bel Powley.

However, after ratings declined in the final few seasons, in 2018 ITV announced the show had been axed.

But earlier this year Sherrie Hewson, who played Joyce Temple-Savage over six seasons, said she’d love to see the sitcom return, this time to the big screen.

‘Everybody in the world watches it now. I mean, everybody stops in the street and says we just want it back,’ she said during an appearance on Good Morning Britain.

Discussing whether the show could make a comeback, she added: ‘It would make a film, I think, and you could bring people from everywhere, that have ever been on Benidorm, and their stories back together.

‘I think it would be brilliant, and it would be two-and-a-half hours as opposed to half an hour.

‘I think it would very funny. So that’s what I’m up for.’

Benidorm is streaming on ITVX.
