Strictly Come Dancing star Zara McDermott has revealed she was ‘spat on’ by a man while out shopping on Christmas eve.
The former Love Island contestant, who is dating I’m A Celebrity winner Sam Thompson, shared on her Instagram stories that the ‘vile’ incident left her ‘shocked’.
‘I am actually shocked at what just happened, I’m actually shocked.
‘We were just getting some last minute Christmas bits just walking down the street, normal, normal stuff and this guy out of nowhere runs up to us, spits on us, thankfully it just missed because of the wind and then walked off in the other direction.
‘He comes up behind us and goes [mimics spitting] on us, and then walks the other direction.
‘I can’t believe it.’
‘No Im shocked!!!! What is wrong with people,’ the 28-year-old captioned the video.

Zara later shared an update to her followers, saying she would have been ‘shaken’ had she not been with her brother’s girlfriend Alice.
She wrote: ‘I’m still kinda in shock that someone could do that…
‘I think I would have been really shaken up if alone! Luckily I was with Alice!
‘Had so many messages from other people having experienced the same thing in London.
‘I’ve heard of men approaching women on the street and hitting them in the face also (a friend of mine had this happen to her) It’s completely vile!’

Last year, Zara faced another incident while out in public, where she was knocked off her bike and left injured.
She explained at the time she had been left with a red mark on her face, and said the accident happened on a busy road but noone stopped to help her.
Zara said on Instagram: ‘To the cyclist who was riding an electric bike on the wrong side of the road, knocked me over on a busy main road, swore at me and drove off.’
She went on: ‘Thanks honestly what is wrong with some people!!! The worst thing is no one came over to help me.’
Just months earlier, she suffered another terrifying ordeal and was left shaken when four masked men tried to break into her car while she was locked inside.

She said she had just returned to her vehicle after a shopping trip and loaded her bags into the boot before getting in and locking the doors, but was then surrounded by men in balaclavas who repeatedly attempted to gain access to the car.
‘I want to talk about something quite serious that just happened to me,’ she began. ‘I’m feeling really shaken up about it actually. I’m feeling a bit emotional.’
She went on: ‘Within a few seconds of me putting my phone down and getting ready to go, I dropped my key on the floor, so I bend down to pick it up and I look up and there are four guys surrounding my car. Most of them had balaclavas on.
‘It all happened so quickly but the guy on the passenger side, he had a hood up and a scarf, and was trying to open the door.

‘Then I looked back, and someone was tapping on my window trying to get my attention and stop me from moving.
‘I look in the rearview mirror and I think someone is trying to get in the boot and then someone appears in front of the car, basically surrounding the car.’
Explaining how she got out of the terrifying situation, Zara continued: ‘I literally didn’t even think. I just put it into reverse, and I just put the accelerator down and just drove off.
‘I just managed to get away from that situation. I’m fine but it really made me realise that one thing that I always do, always locking the car when I’m in it, imagine if I didn’t do that.
‘I could have had everything stolen off me, they could have stolen the car, they could have they could have done something to me.’
