Chris McCausland’s latest project has been hailed as ‘perfect festive viewing’.

Earlier this month the comedian, 47, was announced as the winner of this year’s season of Strictly Come Dancing alongside Dianne Buswell.

A few weeks on, fans have been able to see Chris on their screens again, this time in the new Christmas movie Bad Tidings.

Co-written by Chris, Laurence Rickard and Martha Howe-Douglas (part of the team behind Ghosts and Horrible Histories), the film stars Lee Mack as home security expert Neil, who can’t stand his neighbour Scott (Chris).

Although Scott drives him made doing things like swapping their bins and keeping his Christmas lights up all year, Neil is the only one on their street who has a problem with him.

Things get even more frustrating for Neil when their neighbours try to promote Scott the new head of Neighbourhood Watch (as he attempts to point out, appointing a blind man might be a problem) and in a row between the pair, the power on the entire street gets blown on Christmas Eve.

Bad Tidings also stars comedian Lee Mack (Picture: Sky UK Ltd.)

Forced to leave and make alternative Christmas arrangements, the community makes the two men stay and remain on guard, however they must team up when an infamous local crime family set their sites on the street and decide to rob it all in one night.

But with one blind man and no lights, cameras or alarms, their work is cut out for them.

After tuning in, viewers shared their thoughts on the festive flick.

‘I watched Bad Tidings last night by Lee Mack and Chris McCausland, and it’s absolutely brilliant not belly laughed like that for years a proper Home Alone for adults,’ Debbie posted on X.

‘Absolutely loved Bad Tidings on Sky TV. Great cast and laugh out loud script. Lee Mack and Chris McCausland work really well together: this for me could work as a series. Feel good TV at its best,’ Darren shared.

‘So, I just watched Bad Tidings, starring Chris McCausland and Lee Mack. Guys, it was so funny. One of the best and funniest I’ve seen for ages. Chris was in his element and at his best and funniest.  You all have got to watch it,’ Jacinta added.

Others added that it would now be ‘a film I watch every year’ while some said that ‘there needs to be a sequel’.

This isn’t the first time the pair have teamed up together, previously appearing on multiple panel shows together, including Would I Lie To You? and on Lee’s sitcom Not Going Out.

Speaking to What to Watch about approaching Lee to appear in Bad Tidings, Chris explained: ‘I had an idea about a Christmas heist involving a blind character taking down the villains, with lots of visual comedy and action.

‘So, I thought, “Let’s get that idiot involved, too. He’s the best in his price range”.’

The pair also joked that after undergoing two weeks of night shoots in Essex they’d decided the sequel would be ‘a road trip to Miami’.

However, Lee joked: ‘I’ve got one eye on retirement and a greenhouse now, so if you’re interviewing us on Bad Tidings 9 and I’m back in Romford for the ninth year running, I might be slightly irritated.’

Bad Tidings is available to stream on Now.
