‘Unforgettable’ 2004 film with 94% Rotten Tomatoes score leaving Netflix next week-Rishma Dosani-Entertainment – Metro

An Oscar-winning drama starring Jim Carrey is leaving Netflix in a matter of days, despite boasting an almost-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was released in March, 2004, and became an instant hit – with critics and fans alike heaping praise on Michel Gondry’s masterpiece.

Jim led the cast as Joel Barish alongside Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood and Tom Wilkinson.

The film followed Joel, who learned that his ex-girlfriend, Clementine Kruczynski (Kate), had undergone a secret procedure to erase her memories of their relationship, and set out to do the same.

It earned huge praise when it premiered and won the Oscar for best original screenplay, while Kate earned a best actress nod for her efforts, as well as Bafta and Golden Globe nominations.

Unfortunately for some, Eternal Sunshine is leaving Netflix in the US on December 31, which means you might want to act fast if you want to stream the devastating movie.

It will still remain on the UK version for now, and is also available on Peacock in America.

The movie currently boasts a Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 92%, compared to a critics ranking of 94%.

A J wrote: ‘Achingly tender yet funny. One of the most beautiful films of all time.’

‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind feels like a fever dream,’ Samuel J agreed. ‘Raw, surreal, and unforgettable. Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet deliver beautifully human performances in this poetic dive into love and memory.’

Julie B said: ‘This is so moving and meaningful yet funny that it is masterful. The scenes going through the final memories, especially the beach one, are tooooo much.

‘Even better and more painful with rewatches [sic].’

Cameron C replied: ‘An emotional rollercoaster. Beautifully depicts relationships in a heartfelt way and makes you recognise just how special they are.’

As Kaden D simply added: ‘This should be required viewing for every human.’

Eternal Sunshine hit our screens 20 years ago and, unpacking the role in a chat with Vanity Fair, Kate explained that it is constantly being discovered by younger generations, who often approach her about it.

‘What’s really interesting is that there’s a whole other generation of young people discovering Eternal Sunshine,’ she said.

‘They’re discovering it in a different way, because I find that the Gen Z are much more open in terms of who they are and how they want to live their lives – what they want from their next decade, what they’ve learned and what they won’t repeat.

‘There’s a sense of using their voices that is much more palpable now than it was perhaps when we actually made the film back in 2003.

‘What’s fascinating, having been acting for such a long time, is watching how a newer audience coming at something will find totally different things to what an audience found then.

‘People now say, “Oh my God, that was me. I was Clementine. I was her. I was her. I still am her now. Oh my God.” And they’ll really cite reasons why.’

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is available to stream on Netflix now.
