Mark Wright’s grandfather Eddie Wright has died at the age of 91, it has been announced.

The Wright family revealed in a statement that the late former champion boxer and paramedic died on January 6, 2025.

‘Mark’s grandad passed away last night. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones,’ read a statement to MailOnline.

Wright was best known by the British public for his frequent appearances on television shows with his grandson.

In 2019, he joined Mark on BBC’s TV show Who Do You Think You Are?

He spoke fondly of his grandfather, telling This Morning at the time that he did the show in order to ‘give back’ to him: ‘He’s done so much for our family, our granddad, all our lives.

‘He is our king and the best granddad you could ever have. It’s hard to repay him for how much he’s done.

‘This was that moment I could say, before it’s too late, I’ve been able to give this back.’

In June 2024, Mark’s father (also named Mark) revealed that his father had suffered from a fall and was hospitalised.

In the post that was shared on Father’s Day, he penned: ‘Happy fathers day to the best unfortunately in hospital at the moment after a fall a couple of days ago but dad I’m on my way up to see you now keep strong xxx’

Fans immediately wished him a speedy recovery and hoped he’d be back on his feet in no time.

The news comes just days into the new year and shortly after Mark announced that he was expecting a child with his wife of 10 years Michelle Keegan.

The couple have been married for a decade and have faced many intrusive questions about when they were going to begin having children over the years.

The couple shared the news of their pregnancy with a sweet snap on December 29 announcing the news.

In the photo, taken at sunset on a beach, Michelle could be seen cradling her bump while wearing a two-piece white set while her husband faced her while walking towards her on the sand, with his back to the camera.

‘2025 is going to be a special one for us… 👶🏻,’ they captioned the post.
