Harlan Coben’s new Netflix thriller series Missing You dropped on New Year’s Day – and fans all scrambled to watch it, but on doing so have now warned others not to ‘waste their time’ on it.
The five-part series, based on the 2014 novel of the same name, sees Slow Horses actor Rosalind Eleazar in the leading role alongside a whole load of cameos from stars including I’m A Celeb’s GK Barry and Busted’s Matt Willis.
It follows Kat, played by Rosalind, 10 years after her father dies and her fiancé leaves her, never to be seen again.
In true Harlan fashion, Kat’s job as a Detective Inspector soon gets entangled with her personal life.
In Missing You, chaos ensues in the form of a reappearance of Kat’s ex Josh Buchanan (played by Top Boy’s Ashley Walters) in an unexpected place and a murderous dog breeder portrayed by a particularly macabre Steve Pemberton.
While it clocked up to the number 1 watched list on Netflix, viewers have been left ‘underwhelmed’ at the thriller – with lots ‘dumb plot holes’ and an ‘unsatisfying ending’.
One viewer, @JLaurel75 wrote on X: ‘Don’t waste your time on the series Missing You on Netflix. Awful, full of dumb plot holes, and an unsatisfying ending.’

‘Should have been a movie. There was no need for it to be a series. Terrible plot and very predictable from the first episode. Solid 2/10,’ said @MirthCity.
‘Missing You on Netflix is missing too many parts of the story and could have been tied together better,’ added @tyetweets_.
@CelineMontano added: ‘Missing You on Netflix started so strong but wow I was very disappointed by the last ep.’
But some enjoyed the ride, as @andrewmcb said: ‘I’m saying nothing other than @HarlanCoben has done it again! Missing You is SO good, the writing is immaculate & every character is perfectly cast.’
Elsewhere in the series legendary British actor Marc Warren also appears, cast as a dying convicted felon who confessed to killing Kat’s father – but he looked quite unrecognisable from his Mad Dogs and Hustle roles.
James Nesbitt appears as king gangster, Sex Education’s Samantha Spiro is a rebellious nurse, while Richard Armitage – of course – appears as head rozza Stagger. Oh, and Lenny Henry is in it too.

It seems every actor wants a bit of the Coben pie – especially, perhaps, after the success of Fool Me Once starring Michelle Keegan, Joanna Lumley and Richard Armitage (again).
Speaking about her time as Kat, Rosalind told Virgin Radio she had a ‘great time’ and credited the ‘brilliant’ cast around her.
‘We were so so lucky with this cast, and lucky for me I got to act with all of them,’ she added.
She also recalled the time Harlan visited the set from his US home, and her being ‘nervous’ for him to watch her portray Kat.
‘He’s written the book, he knows this character inside out, and you suddenly think you’re being judged on every movement that you make. But you know, he lets me do what I want,’ she said.
Other Coben films on Netflix include Stay Close, Innocent, The Woods, Hold Tight, Gone For Good, The Stranger, and Safe.
Missing You is available to stream on Netflix now.
