So much goes on inside the castle that we don’t see…

A new year means a brand new series of The Traitors, bringing more lies, deceit, and betrayal to our screens than ever before.
Following the launch of series 3 of Claudia Winkleman’s BBC phenomenon, we did some digging into the biggest secrets from behind the scenes—surely we all want to know what happens when cameras aren’t rolling?
Enter Ed Gamble, comedian and host of The Traitors: Uncloaked, a visual podcast that dissects every piece of action from inside the Scottish castle where the reality show is set, quizzing the banished on their experiences, analysing gameplay, and, of course, highlighting the best memes.
In a conversation with Metro, Ed, 38, reveals what surprised him most about the programme—spoiler alert, the edit is a powerful thing.
The roundtable is infamous. Each episode, we see all contestants, Faithfuls and Traitors, gather around and essentially throw one another to the wolves. It’s then they vote to banish before the latest victim of the roundtable reveals which side they belonged to.
Over the past two series, the roundtable has provided some legendary scenes, from Ross revealing he was actually related to another player (hun mum Diane) to Kieran’s ‘parting gift’ in the gripping series 1 finale.

For viewers, the roundtable scene lasts, what? 10 minutes? However, Ed has confessed that players are actually in that grand room for much longer than we might assume.
Asked what shocked him as he became privy to the show’s inner workings after signing on last year, he says: ‘Speaking to all of the players and people who’ve been in there before, it is how long they are at that roundtable for.

‘We get a good edit of it; it’s tense, it’s exciting, it’s bang, bang, bang, plot point, plot point, plot point, but they are there for a long old time.’
Ed adds: ‘[The players] wait to go in there for a long time, in silence.
‘They are not supposed to talk to each other. They get to a point where they’re not gonna give any more stuff away; they just have to get in there and film what looks like a very tense situation.’
He praises: ‘They really put themselves through it for that show, but it’s great telly!’
Series 3 of The Traitors boasts an exciting cast, as we started with an all-female lineup of Traitors for the first time, consisting of Armani, Minah, and Linda.

Not even two weeks in, we’ve already been dealt several twists, from sisterly betrayal to Charlotte’s fake Welsh accent.
What’s more, another spanner has been thrown in the works, ensuring the hugely popular format possesses zero risk of becoming stale as contestants are well and truly kept on their toes.
For the first time, those who reach the final will no longer reveal whether they are a Faithful or a Traitor at the end, which Ed believes makes the game more open for either team to triumph.
‘The twist at the end makes it a lot more difficult for the Faithfuls because previously if you got a Traitor out at that final game, if you’d done enough detective work and research, you could probably work out when all of the Traitors were gone and then end the game.
‘But now, you don’t know whether you’ve got a Traitor out! I would say before that twist, the game was weighted in favour of the Faithful.’
Reminiscing on series 2, when ‘Ultimate Traitor’ Harry Clark fooled Faithful Mollie Pearce right until the end, swiping over £95,000 from under her nose, Ed jokes that, in theory, Harry ‘should not have won whatsoever’.
‘Harry winning was just brilliant game playing from him. He just absolutely nailed it with that final twist of having the shield and saying someone tried to murder him; it was just genius, but now I think it feels a bit more 50/50.

‘I will feel a bit more tense about whether Traitors or Faithfuls will win. We are so early in the series, I couldn’t make any predictions, but I know that we have some good Traitors and we have some brilliant Faithfuls, so we will see.
‘And the joy of it is, I sort of don’t mind! As long as it’s exciting along the way!’
A celebrity edition of The Traitors is also upon us. Stars including Bob Mortimer, Daisy May Cooper, and even Friends sensation Courteney Cox are all currently rumoured to be appearing.
But, unfortunately for Ed, he’s had to ‘rule [himself] out of taking part’ for obvious reasons.
The self-professed Traitors superfan admits he’s ‘a bit sad’ that his role on Uncloaked would present a conflict of interest but declares that he ‘wouldn’t give this job away for anything.’
So, will Uncloaked be back to divulge all the secrets when the showbiz version hits screens? Watch this space.
‘I really know nothing,’ Ed insists. ‘I don’t know whether Uncloaked will be back for Celebrity, but we’ll see. I’d love to do it.’
The Traitors airs Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
