Matty Healy has spoken out about claims that new music from The 1975 is about his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift.

The About You singer, 35, and Cruel Summer hitmaker, also 35, were rumoured to have dated between April and June 2023.

Though the pair never confirmed their relationship, Swift’s album The Tortured Poets Department is said to contain references to her ex and their time together.

And fans seemed to think Matty would do the same as The 1975 gear up to release their secretive sixth studio album.

A source told The Sun that the album’s lead single God Has Entered My Body, convinced those working with the band it was about Taylor and their ‘fleeting romance.’

This initial report was shared to The 1975 subreddit on Reddit, with Healy jokingly responding to the news, writing: ‘Huge if true.’

The insider shared that among the lyrics on the latest album is the line: ‘Keep your head up Princess, your tiara is falling.’

Fans have pointed out this is the caption to a 2021 post from the Girls singer, one of the few on his Instagram page.

The source continued: ‘Matty will never publicly comment on his relationships, but he lets his deepest feelings out in his songs and gets everything off his chest.

‘Fans will want to listen to the lyrics very carefully.

With the band set to headline Glastonbury, a new album dropping in the summer makes perfect sense for them, so they can capitalise on the performance and have some new material.’

In October, Matty spoke about why he doesn’t use his relationships as a source of inspiration for his music.

During an appearance on Joshua Citarella’s Doomscroll podcast, he said: ‘Last year I became a way more well-known public figure for loads of different reasons.’

He continued: ”I think that a lot of artists, they become very interested in their lore, or they become interested in the things that have happened outside of their art that people know about, and they want to address that, and [that’s] fair enough.

‘Maybe on my first record, when it was very much a series of journal entries, like little bits of heartache, I used to write about relationships a lot more and stuff like that.

‘But honestly, I would kind of just be lying if I made a record about, I don’t know, all the stuff that was said about me or my casual romantic liaisons or whatever it may be, that I’ve kind of become known for just because I was famous.

‘I think that that’s an obvious thing to draw from and I’m just not interested in it. And I think the maintenance of the status quo is something that I always fight against.’

Matty is now engaged to actress, model, and influencer Gabbriette Bechtel, who he began dating in September 2023.

Taylor, meanwhile, has been in a relationship with Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce since September 2023, despite breakup rumours plaguing the couple.
