British pop culture missed out on a power couple of epic proportions when Harry Styles reportedly ghosted Jade Thirlwall.

The former X Factor icons went on a date before their careers really took off but romance wasn’t on the cards for this chart-topping duo.

Over a decade later, Jade is happily loved up with boyfriend Jordan Stephens (of Rizzle Kicks fame) but recalled her brief spark with Harry while on Louis Theroux’s podcast.

‘There’s a clip on YouTube […] And Harry runs up and it’s like, surprise, and then you look fairly blasé about it,’ Louis, 54, said.

‘And the comments are like, “love how Jade gives him the side eye” or something, not side eye, but it’s basically how seemingly unimpressed you are.’

The 32-year-old singer replied: ‘I didn’t know he was going to be the Harry Styles, did I?’

She continued: ‘I think we went on like one date when again, we were like 16 or something. Yeah, he’d just got put in the band and it was really funny because we kept in touch.’

The group was One Direction, which propelled Harry, 30, and his bandmates to dizzying heights of fame as one of the biggest boy bands ever.

However, it seems he ghosted Jade even before they hit the charts as she claims ‘the minute they went on live shows’, he stopped replying.

Jade shared: ‘He didn’t message me back and I thought, “That’s it now, he’s gone, he’s made it.” And then I made it the next year, and then I saw him in the room after, and he was like, “I’m really sorry that I ignored you.”

Louis teased: ‘He ghosted you.’

The IT Girl singer agreed but added: ‘I was so young, it didn’t really matter. But he was always very, very lovely.’

She seemed very unfazed by the heartbreak, which Louis pushed her on again and asked if that was ‘really’ how she felt.

‘So much pain’ he joked before adding that Harry is ‘a friend of the podcast’ so could well be listening to the interview.

Jade replied:  ‘Oh, really? Yeah. I mean. he’s got himself to where he is because he’s very talented and he’s very lovely, very charming.’

The year after One Direction’s rise to fame, Jade’s group Little Mix became the first band to win the popular singing competition.

Both groups had numerous chart hits before bandmates eventually went solo and One Direction sadly lost a member with the shock death of Liam Payne last year.

Harry has seen huge success post-1D, with three Grammy wins and a mammoth tour which finished in 2023.

Meanwhile, Jade is launching her solo career after Little Mix went on hiatus in 2022, with her two singles charting on debut.
