It’s no secret we love The Traitors here in the UK, but just how much do we love it? History-making love, apparently.

The third season of the BBC’s hit show, presented by Claudia Winkleman, came to a nail-biting end on Friday night, and it seems to have been worth the chaos as it broke a major record for the broadcaster.

It was announced today that the final episode attracted a huge audience, so huge, in fact, it resulted in 1.6million views more than last year’s season finale.

BBC shared that the episode was watched live by an ‘average audience of 7.4million on Friday night’, making it the most watched episode ever in BBC One’s history.

The overnight viewing figures have also been compiled with a further 4.8million people tuning into the finale as well as an extended episode of The Traitors: Uncloaked podcast, which is available to viewers on BBC One and Sounds.

It was an intense season of the show, which saw the contestants gather in a Scottish castle for their chance to win a share of a prize fund.

Ultimately, after a series of missions, Leanne Quigley and Jake Brown were crowned the winners.

While they earned a life-changing £94,600 in prize money and landed the highly sought-after title of winners, they have since revealed they had to attend therapy to deal with their ‘paranoia’ as a result of being on the show.

‘It was filmed back in the springtime, so it’s been a long time to keep it quiet. It’s been really difficult,’ Jake told The Sunday Times.

‘I mean, I was paranoid in my head because before the show even came on, I kept thinking people were looking at me, but obviously, at that point, no one knew who I was.’

Jake joined Francesca Rowan-Plowden, Leanne, Alexander Dragonetti and Charlotte Berman in the last episode, which saw an excruciating round of endgame and a conclusion to a season that Metro described as ‘an endurance test for the show’s most loyal following’.

The show was a clear hit with fans, but it doesn’t mean it’s perfect, and many have called for a shake-up after a plot twist that saw The Seer expose Charlotte as a Traitor to Francesca, resulting in ‘an absolute anti-climax’ as it was clear whose fates were sealed.

Fans have instead suggested tweaking The Seer by giving the power to a player whose identity can not be revealed earlier in the series.

They also want Faithfuls to be disincentivised from banishing other Faithfuls around the fire pit by adding a financial penalty for each incorrect elimination.

On X, @femielufowojujr explained: ‘Tonight’s final an absolute anti-climax. If it ain’t broke why fix it. The format change altered the fate of the finalists. There should of been a sanction for the finalists banishing a fellow faithful. Flat champers all round.’

Echoing their sentiment, @randomgirl_411 said: ‘I think there needs to be some kind of financial consequence for every faithful they banish in the final. Last night clear faithfuls were gone because two people wanted more cash.’

Show bosses are yet to respond to the criticism, but with one year until the next round of contestants tries their luck at winning the show, they have plenty of time to reconsider The Seer.

The Traitors is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
