The release date for Squid Game season 3 has finally – and officially – been confirmed by Netflix, and there isn’t long to wait.

On Boxing Day last year, fans of the South Korean TV phenomenon were left in a state of awe and despair when season 2 dropped in its entirety, revealing what happened when Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) decided to re-enter the deadly game.

Not only did Gi-hun have to contend yet again with playing childhood games where his life was at risk, but he also ended up competing alongside the dreaded Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), although he had no idea about his fellow player’s true, threatening identity.

It was confirmed prior to the release of the latest episodes of Squid Game that it would return for a third and final season. And now, Netflix has announced when the grand finale of the bloody story will launch.

Here’s all you need to know about the show’s swansong.

When is Squid Game season 3 being released?

On Friday June 27, the final season of Squid Game will be available to stream on Netflix.

As of right now, that’s only a mere 148 days away.

Really not a long wait at all, when you consider that we had to endure three years between the first two seasons.

What time does Squid Game come out on Netflix?

Typically, new episodes of TV shows drop on Netflix drop at 8.01am GMT in the UK.

What do we know about Squid Game season 3?

*Spoilers ahead for anyone who hasn’t watched the second season of Squid Game yet.*

The players will have to face the aftermath of the failed rebellion in the new episodes (Picture: Noh Ju-han/Netflix)

In the third season of Squid Game, Gi-hun will be left reeling after witnessing his best friend Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan) be brutally murdered right in front of his eyes by the Front Man.

After his failed rebellion against those in charge, Gi-hun is going to have to rally his strength to continue in the game… and there’ll undoubtedly be even more devastation around the corner.

Creator Dong-hyuk previously teased about the final season: ‘The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man’s] two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year.’

Will there be any more seasons of Squid Game?

It’s been confirmed that Squid Game won’t continue past season three.

However, the creator of the series has teased that spin-offs could be a possibility in future.

The Front Man has played a strong game. But who knows if he’ll ever be truly found out by Gi-hun (Picture: Noh Ju-han/Netflix)

‘When we were doing season one, I was saying there was never going to be another season,’ he told The Hollywood Reporter.

‘And so if the time comes, and it just so happens that I’m able to come up with a character or a different story, then maybe there might be a comeback. But I’m thinking more along the lines of a spin-off.’

Dong-hyuk suggested that he might consider exploring what happened in the three-year gap between seasons one and two.

‘So, for example, what was the Front Man doing during those three years?’ the writer said.

‘What was the Recruiter doing? When I have some downtime, I like to just toss some ideas around and go wild with my imagination. So I guess we can be open to anything.’

Squid Game is available to stream on Netflix.
