Ruth Langsford has spoken about her ‘difficult’ and ‘painful’ split from Eamonn Holmes for the first time.
The former couple shocked fans when they announced their split in May 2023 after 14 years of marriage.
At the time, reports stated work commitments had resulted in them drifting in ‘different directions’.
Ruth, 64, has since said very little on their marriage coming to an end, aside from a few cheeky swipes at her ex on Loose Women, while Eamonn, 65, has revealed his new relationship with counsellor Katie Alexander, 42, at public events and being pictured on a luxury Mediterranean cruise.
In a new interview, former This Morning presenter Ruth has said she’s ’embracing’ being single and ‘moving on’ after her ‘very painful’ split.
Opening up on her split for the first time since it was announced in May, Ruth said: ‘I’m alright.’

‘Relationship breakdowns are very difficult – marriage, friendship, whatever it is – but you just deal with it and you have to move on.
‘You can either let yourself crumble or you pick yourself up and get on with life. It’s a choice.’
She added to Women&Home: ‘I’m not delighted my marriage is over but I’ve accepted that my marriage is over, so I am trying to now embrace the fact that I’m single and can make choices that are just about me.’
Ruth, who shares 22-year-old son Jack with Eamonn, went on: ‘A break-up of a relationship is hard enough for anybody to deal with.

‘A divorce is very difficult and it’s very painful,’ Ruth said (Picture: DAN KENNEDY)
‘A divorce is very difficult and it’s very painful, but most people don’t have to do it in the public eye, with everybody having an opinion about you and writing things about you and commenting things about you.
‘But that’s the nature of my job. I’ve always had that and if you can’t cope with that, you shouldn’t be doing this job.
‘I’m quite fine being on my own, but not forever. When you’re in a relationship, it’s easy to say, “Great, I’ve got a weekend to myself,” but when you think that might be every weekend, it’s a different story.’
Ruth added that the toll of the situation and difficult has split has resulted in her losing weight, as well as being affected by hormone health and the end of menopause.

The star has maintained a dignified silence for nearly a year after their split was announced.
Ruth did mention that it’s been a ‘tricky time’ going through the split in the public eye, and it had been claimed she’d hired a ‘fierce’ divorce lawyer, while it was elsewhere reported that she’d taken her ‘revenge’ and left Eamonn ‘furious’ after she removed his stairlift from their home, amid his ongoing mobility struggles.
A source claimed at the time: ‘Ruth has remained quiet and classy. Even when people bring up what Eamonn has been up to, she stays silent and just smiles.
‘She thinks that is the best way. She has had a lot of support from her friends.’
The March issue of woman&home is on sale from February 6, 2025.
Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV1.
