Friends fans are still arguing about one of the biggest blunders 27 years later-Ruth Lawes-Entertainment – Metro
There are still clueless.

Friends fans are still up in arms over a mystery that has been puzzling them for nearly three decades.
Over the years, viewers of the US sitcom have pointed out a huge inconsistency relating to hairstyle icon Rachel (Jennifer Aniston).
And, no, it’s got nothing to do with her on/off relationship with the hapless Ross (David Schwimmer).
On Reddit, users have noticed that her surname has been spelt both as Green and Greene, leading to mass confusion over the correct spelling of her name.
For example, in 1998 episode The One with the Invitation, Rachel’s name is spelt Greene on her invite to Ross’s wedding to Emily (Helen Baxendale).
Five years later in The One Where Rachel Goes Back to Work her name is spelt Greene on her office door at Ralph Lauren.

However, that same year in The One With The Cake, the accidentally erotic cake for Rachel and Ross’s daughter Emma was addressed to Rachel Green.
On Reddit, RobbieArnott mused: ‘They go backwards and forwards throughout the show on whether it’s Green or Greene. It could very well be Grean for all we know.’
_lucabeth pointed out: ‘IMDb has it as “Green”. I don’t think anybody actually really knows. 🤣 (Kinda off-topic, but along the same lines-Aaron Tveit’s character on Gossip Girl’s name is always spelled differently among the fandom. The show has it as “Trip”, but so many others spell it “Tripp”, so w/e. 😂).’
Sunfl0werfields said: ‘Both spellings have been used, interestingly enough. I wonder if they just didn’t keep track of how they spelt it, or if they messed up somewhere and stuck with it, or if they actively decided at some point to change it?’

It’s unclear what the correct spelling of Rachel’s name is – but they did at least get Jennifer Aniston’s family name right in an Easter Egg nestled in Friends.
In the season seven finale, The One With Chandler and Monica’s Wedding, Rachel is tasked with finding a replacement minister after Chandler (Matthew Perry) and Monica’s (Courteney Cox) wedding hits a snag.
She manages to find one at a Greek Orthodox wedding, celebrating the union of the Anastassakis and Papasifakis families.
Turns out Anastassakis is a nod to the 55-year-old Hollywood star – as it’s her original family name.

However, Jennifer nearly missed out on playing waitress-turned-fashionista Rachel Green(e) due to a scheduling conflict, according to book Generation Friends, written by Saul Austerlitz.
The We’re The Miller star was already connected to a comedy called Muddling Through for another network at the time.
Austerlitz claimed that the show almost had to recast Rachel after Jen auditioned for the show in 1994 because producers were anxious about losing her during the first season if Muddling Through was picked up after the pilot.
Muddling Through, however, was cancelled meaning Jennifer could devote her time to Friends.
Friends is available to stream on Netflix in the UK.
