Kathy Bates’ X-rated reaction to Critics Choice Award win is one for the history books-Kitty Chrisp-Entertainment – Metro

Kathy Bates dropped some serious expletives on winning a Critics Choice Award last night for her role in CBS show Matlock.

The 76-year-old clearly did not expect to win the best actress in drama series award at the show in Santa Monica, as when her name was announced the star’s reaction was priceless.

Looking totally stunned, Kathy took more than a few seconds to freeze in her seat at the news, before slowly uttering: ‘F**k, f**k, no, no, no!’

Kathy stars in the drama as Madeline ‘Matty’ Matlock who rejoins the workforce in her later years, making huge ripples at a law firm through her unassuming demeanor and clever tactics.

Fans dubbed her reaction an instant meme – much like Beyonce’s Grammys moment – as they took to social media to comment on the clip.

‘I’m so so so happy Kathy Bates won at the #CriticsChoiceAwards – you can tell she’s so surprised but she really deserves it. She’s amazing #Matlock and it’s a great show,’ said @ethand1.

‘Somebody make a side-by-side of this with Beyoncé!!!’ wrote Dax Luy, while @marilynhacks said: ‘Kathy Bates will always be an icon.’

‘Wow I really didn’t think this was going to happen,’ Kathy began in her acceptance speech before thanking many co-workers and friends.

‘You know, when we come to work everyday, there’s so much love on that set,’ she continued as per Mail Online.

‘And so many hundreds of years of experience, rolling the dolly, working the camera, the costumers, the prop people, they’re just the top of the line, and walking onto that set, it feels like a miracle, and I’m so grateful to all of them.’

She also offered her trophy to producer Eric Christian Olsen, who she said was searching for a place to live permanently after losing his home in the LA wildfires.

‘I really have to thank the firefighters. You know, our producer, Eric Christian Olsen, had a house in the Palisades and it burned down, and so it’s very personal to us, and to watch all the film of you guys standing in a line with a just a wall of flames in front of you is just terrifying and I don’t know how you did it. But I thank you so much for so many of us in Los Angeles,’ she said.

She ended the speech with: ‘I also want to tell Eric Olsen who hasn’t quite found a home yet – this is coming to you first thing for decor!’

Elsewhere in the evening Kathy got a shout out from Colin Farrell, as he accepted his best actor in a limited series award for The Penguin.

‘Where is Kathy Bates?’ he said. ‘Where are you? Where is she?’

Kathy was then seen putting her arm in the air, which Colin clocked and said, ‘Cool,’ adding: ‘I’ll be over there in a minute.’

Elsewhere, Demi Moore came out on top again for her role in The Substance, bagging the best actress in film award. Meanwhile, Adrien Brody won best actor for The Brutalist.

Horror Nosferatu took home best cinematography, while Wicked director Jon M Chu also left with his arms full.
