Call the Midwife fans ‘gutted’ after beloved character is killed off-Pierra Willix-Entertainment – Metro

Call the Midwife fans have been left in tears after a beloved character died.

In the most recent episode of the long-running BBC series, which aired last night, Cyril Robinson’s (Zephryn Taitte) cat Nigel was killed off.

The feline first appeared on the show during the 2023 Christmas special.

After finding Nigel on the street and feeding him a tin of fish, Cyril helped watch out for him.

However, on last night’s episode midwife Rosalind Clifford (Natalie Quarry) found Nigel unwell on the street and then took him to Cyril.

The cat was trembling and refusing food and water before he was put in a blanket, with Cyril planning to taking him to the vet first thing the next morning.

‘We need to get you back on your feet. I need to see you sitting on your step in the sunshine waiting for me. I need you to last until the morning,’ he told Nigel through tears.

However, when he woke up the next day, Cyril was heartbroken to find Nigel had died overnight.

‘Don’t leave me Nigel. Poor little man. Oh, my poor friend,’ he said while stroking the cat’s head.

Soon after Fred Buckle (Cliff Parisi) made a small grave in the gardens for Nigel as Cyril said it would be ‘nice knowing he is nearby’.

‘I’m generally not sentimental about animals but I’m going to miss his little face,’ Fred said.

‘We were strays together,’ Nigel replied. ‘He had no-one, and I had no-one when we met… but we made a home together.’

Watching the scenes unfold, viewers were devastated at the death.

‘NIGEL THE CAT NOOOOOOO,’ Elise posted on X.

‘I can’t believe Call the Midwife killed off Nigel…. best character on the show,’ user mochiboom shared.

‘WHY DID HE HAVE TO DIE. NIGEL WAS INNOCENT,’ Alice declared.

‘Gutted about Nigel the Cat,’ Hannah added.

‘All the pain and heartbreak in Call the Midwife and Nigel dying has been the most I’ve ever cried,’ Mollie admitted.

Despite the heartbreak, Nigel’s death spurred Cyril to admit his feelings for Rosalind.

After visiting her in hospital after she became unwell, Cyril told her that Nigel’s passing made him realise he didn’t want to be alone.

Being reminded he is married; Cyril went on to share he was getting a divorce from Lucille and then kissed Rosalind on the cheek.

Call the Midwife airs Sundays at 8pm on BBC One.
