A Different Man star Adam Pearson has been praised for his brilliant clapback to a troll mocking his appearance on social media ahead of Baftas 2025.

The 40-year-old actor was born with the rare genetic condition known as neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) which causes tumours to grow across a person’s nerves.

It is a topic he has been vocal about for years, and the subject of his latest movie opposite Sebastian Stan which follows aspiring actor Edward who blames his lack of career success on his neurofibromatosis.

The film, which also loosely draws on Adam’s own experiences, has been met with critical acclaim including a Golden Globe win for the Apprentice star in the best supporting actor category.

Although the movie didn’t receive any Bafta nominations, Adam is attending the awards where it was shown in the seating plan he would be next to Havana hitmaker Camila Cabello.

An X user, @flophive, shared a screenshot of Adam’s photo next to Camila with the caption: ‘This is genuinely so scary, I would not attend the event if I were Camila’ in a since-deleted post.

People on social media were quick to come to the screen star’s defence, calling the comment ‘beyond pathetic’ and ‘extremely disgusting ableism’.

The Under The Skin star responded to the post, writing: ‘Luckily for everyone you’re not Camila and – most importantly – weren’t invited.

‘So from me, Adam Pearson, directly to you @FlopHive – take your nonsense opinions elsewhere as I have EXACTLY zero time for your anonymous, ableist nonsense.’

Fans praised the perfect response.

‘OH CLOCK IT KING,’ @ladidaix wrote on X.

‘people being so awful to Adam Pearson makes me so angry. he’s done nothing wrong! he’s extremely talented and kind!’ @veryhighcamp shared.

‘I’m all for celebrities calling people out like this tbh,’ lovevtalk added.

Adam rocked up on the Baftas 2025 red carpet wearing a buttoned-up brown blazer and gold brooch as he struck some iconic poses.

In a recent interview with the Guardian, he shared how disability discrimination, and lack of representation at the Oscars, originally held him back from pursuing a film career.

‘I didn’t think disabled people were allowed in films, because I didn’t see any,’ he said.

Sebastian Stan won a Golden Globe for his performance in A Different Man

‘Up until quite recently, only two disabled actors have won Oscars playing disabled characters. And I’m like, “That’s pretty f****d up, right?’

‘I wanted to be a standup comic because I grew up on Joe Pasquale, Kenny Everett, Tommy Cooper. And everyone likes the funny guy.

‘Whether at the time it was just a thinly veiled defence mechanism I don’t know, that’s all too cod psychology for eight-year-old me to comprehend. But yeah, I was a real comedy buff from a really young age.’

The Baftas are now well underway with David Tennant returning for a second year to host.

Celebrities such as Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, best actress nominee Demi Moore and A Complete Unknown actor Timothee Chalamet are hoping for some success during the star-studded awards ceremony.
