Lynne Marie Stewart, best known for her work on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Pee-wee’s Playhouse, has died aged 78.

The news of the the actress’s death was announced on social media on Saturday by her friend and fellow actor Cassandra Peterson (aka Elvira, Mistress Of The Dark.)

‘My heart is breaking upon hearing the news of my dear friend @lynnestewart78 Lynne Stewart’s passing.

‘One of the kindest, sweetest, funniest women who ever lived. The iconic Miss Yvonne of Pee-wee’s Playhouse: She’ll always be “the most beautiful woman in Puppetland”. 💔’

Stewart starred as Miss Yvonne, the Most Beautiful Woman in Puppet Land in a variety of Pee-Wee Herman shows.

She originated the role in the 1981 stage show The Pee-wee Herman Show,and reprised the role in the CBS television show Pee-wee’s Playhouse, and the 2010 stage revival and Broadway production.

She also appeared in Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Big Top Pee-wee, The Running Man, Night Stand with Dick Dietrick, and Son of the Beach.

She notably played Bonnie Kelly, the mother of Charlie Day’s character Charlie Kelly, on It’s Always Sunny In Philidelphia.

The character was recurring but beloved on the show that has become the longest-running sitcom of all time which began in 2005.

Younger audiences may also be familiar with the actress as she guest-starred on the Disney shows Austin & Ally and Good Luck Charlie in 2011.

Those who worked with the star have paid tribute to her online, remembering her as a kind supportive actress.

‘The most beautiful girl in Puppetland has left us. Lynne Stewart was truly an angel and brilliantly funny and an important part of our Groundlings family.

‘As my sister said “ if you don’t love Lynne, you’re just wrong.” 💔💔💔💔💔,’ said Saturday Night Live star Laraine Newman, who was also a member of the comedy improvisational group The Groundlings.

‘Lynne Marie Stewart was just the kindest most affirming most supportive person I’ve come across. Always in my corner.

‘Always beaming with positivity and love. What a legacy she leaves. We will miss her very much… Farewell Miss Yvonne. You’re the most beautiful woman in puppetland, inside and out!’ said Drew Powell who played Bear/Mr. Window in The Pee-Wee revival in 2011.
