Aaron Taylor Johnson’s 2024 film Kraven the Hunter is set to launch on Netflix, as rumours continue that the actor is set to play James Bond.

007 rumours have been rife as fans speculate who might be the next actor to play Bond.

A major frontrunner has been Taylor Johnson, 34, whose action-packed flicks have made him a favourite among the bookies.

Fans who might want to see a little more from this potential Bond won’t have to wait long as it has been announced that Kraven the Hunter – a film he stars in from 2024 – it set to launch on Netflix.

The film focuses on a Spiderman villain, Sergei Kravinoff (Taylor Johnson), who has a complex relationship with his gangster father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), who starts him on a path to find revenge which has brutal – and action packed – consequences.

The characters in the film were created by comic book creator Stan Lee and Steve Ditko during the original run of Marvel’s flagship The Amazing Spider-Man comic series.

The film flopped at the box office, earning less than $60 million (£47.6 million) worldwide against a reported $110 million (£87.3 million) production budget.

Kraven was the third film released by Sony Pictures Entertainment within the Spiderman Universe. This includes Madame Web and Venom: The Last Dance, which were both released in 2024.

Some of the criticism for the film suggested that viewers were oversaturated with Spiderman blockbuster spin-offs in a very short space of time.

The film is extremely divisive, with a 16% ranking from critics on Rotten Tomatoes but a respectable 73% score from audiences.

Peter Bradshaw gave it two stars for The Guardian and commented: ‘Crowe’s safari-going Russian oligarch is the main redeeming feature of this Spider-Man-adjacent tale but there’s not much to like elsewhere.’

Owen Gleiberman said for Variety: ‘I’ve seen much worse comic-book movies than Kraven the Hunter, but maybe the best way to sum up my feelings about the film is to confess that I didn’t stay to see if there was a post-credits teaser.’

Allison Willmore said for The New York Magazine: ‘”A movie no one asked for” isn’t criticism so much as it’s a clear-eyed assessment of Kraven the Hunter’s fundamental issue.’

‘Richard Wenk, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway’s script is profoundly scattered, and there’s such a ruthless amount of re-recorded dialogue inserted that there’s little cohesion between or even within scenes,’ said Clarisse Loughery for The Independent.

In an interview with The Guardian, Taylor Johnson spoke about being proud of the film.

‘I feel like there is a groundedness to the movie that we really wanted, to be realistic and gritty. It is a gangster story with Russell Crowe and it’s got a lot of depth and weight to it.’

He added: ‘There’s a journey and a story that I feel we’ve given agency to. I’m really excited to share that.’

Kraven the Hunter launches on Netflix on March 13.
