It looks like you can expect a lot – and we mean a lot – of new Switch 2 info at Nintendo’s next big showcase, judging by its runtime.
We’re less than 24 hours away from Nintendo’s first proper showcase for the Nintendo Switch 2 and everyone has sky high expectations for it.
Nintendo has avoided saying exactly what people can expect from the showcase, but a thorough breakdown of what the new hardware can do and a closer look at the new Mario Kart teased in the January reveal are safe bets. But beyond that it’s anyone’s guess.
It’s unlikely any info will slip through the cracks ahead of time, but Nintendo has given one more reason to get excited for the showcase: a reassuringly long runtime.
How long is the Nintendo Direct for Switch 2?
As confirmed by Nintendo’s social media accounts, the Switch 2 Direct will run for approximately 60 minutes.
Out of curiosity, we took a quick scan through Nintendo’s archive of previous showcases, and this makes tomorrow’s showcase the longest Nintendo Direct the company has ever had.
This shows how important a showcase this is for Nintendo and means the company will have a lot to share during it. It’s also notable in that usually Directs are known for their brevity, so either they’re spending an unusual amount of time on each subject… or there’s a lot of subjects.
This could mean there’ll be a lot of new game announcements. Aside from Mario Kart, there’s rampant speculation of a Switch 2 port of Metroid Prime 4, a new 3D Mario platformer, and the long rumoured Final Fantasy 9 remake showing up during the proceedings.
It’s unclear how much time Nintendo will spend on the console itself though, and services like Nintendo Switch Online, so it’s still best not to go into the Direct expecting a dozen new game reveals.
Nintendo announced a bunch of new games for the original Switch in last week’s showcase, but the bigger name franchises were notably absent, presumably because they’re being saved for Switch 2.
In fact, the biggest reveal Nintendo had was a new Tomodachi Life, which is popular in Japan but not so much in the rest of the world.
All that said, it’s impossible to predict how Nintendo has chosen to structure the Switch 2 Direct and how much time will be spent on the games or whatever else they want to talk about.
We’re expecting Nintendo will opt to close the showcase with a release date announcement, as well as pricing and pre-order details – especially if the rumours about a June launch are true. However, as with everything else it’s best not to take anything for granted.
Besides Mario Kart, what else are you hoping to see? (YouTube)
