“MMA Is Not a Career, It’s an Opportunity” – Joe Rogan Finds Dana White’s Unpopular UFC Statement “Beautiful”
When it comes to MMA, there are no experts who are as well versed about the sport as combat sports fanatic Joe Rogan and UFC president Dana White. Although the two might not agree with each other on every aspect of the fight business, it seems both the UFC associates have certainly found a common point.
On JRE MMA #124, Rogan was joined by MMA legend B. J. Penn. The duo had a lot to talk about and ventured into details about Penn’s MMA career and experiences with the UFC. The former lightweight and welterweight champion spoke his heart out, and amidst the conversation, there was one thing worth noting.
‘The Prodigy’ addressed all the aspiring and current fighters in the business and warned them about one thing straight up. “I wanna say that to all of those fighters out there. Some of you guys are going to be world champions, some of you guys are going to make a lot of money, but let me remind all of you guys.” Penn said.
“MMA is not a career, it’s an opportunity. And you go out and make the most of your opportunity when you get the chance,” he continued.

After listening to Penn’s statement, Rogan seemed to agree with it and replied, “That’s a beautiful statement.”
However, the thing worth noting here is that this is something that UFC supremo Dana White has also iterated in his press conferences.
Which Dana White statement did Joe Rogan unintentionally agree to?
The problem of low fighter pay is something that runs deep in the UFC. When these issues are brought up, it looks like no one but UFC megastar Conor McGregor is being paid fairly at the premiere promotion. However, UFC President Dana White begs to differ and takes these questions head-on.
In one press-conference, when asked about fighters’ future amidst surging COVID numbers, White released a harrowing statement.
“When you are a professional athlete, you have a very small window of opportunity. A very limited amount of time, you know,” White said. “We get into all this money and the stuff that’s going on right now. Everybody acts like this is a career, this isn’t a career. This isn’t a career, this is an opportunity, anything can happen in any given moment… Who the hell knows what’s coming out of the pipeline?”
