NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Hopes That Tom Brady Will Finally Retire Before This Happens

The Tom Brady-Pro Football love story has been a highlight for the past 20 years. When the GOAT hung up his cleats, few were happy, and many wanted him to be back. With the Bucs QB back for another season, the dreams are finally coming true. Although, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell believes Tom Brady might retire soon before he does.

2022 had a dramatic start in the offseason. The wide receivers getting enormous deals, looming riddles circling Baker Mayfield and Jimmy Garoppolo, and the GOAT announcing his retirement, then heading back in just 40 days. It has been a wild ride of emotions for the NFL fans, analysts and players alike. The Draft has been surprising as well, with several top prospects dispatched into major franchises this year.

Roger Goodell was present in the NFL Draft countdown booth, as he talks about the league’s connection with Las Vegas, offseason athlete moves, and more. During the show, Commissioner Goodell was asked who would be the first one to retire? Will it be Tom Brady, or will it be him?

The NFL Commissioner then responds, “Uh, I hope Tom Brady does it. Let’s put it that way.”

Roger Goodell was among the many entities who sent out a statement for the Buccaneers quarterback when he retired back in February; gazing back at the quarterback’s star-studded NFL career.

Given the fact that Tom Brady is in the final year of his contract with the Bucs, this might be the ‘one last dance’ the fans have been eager for. His un-retirement statement mentions some unfinished business. It might be that the GOAT is eyeing his 8th Super Bowl before he finally steps down.

Will Roger Goodell stay longer than Tom Brady?

Roger Goodell stepping down from the NFL looks like a limitless scenario. Even though it is not as substantial as Brady, Goodell has been the commissioner since 2006. He is approaching the end of his 15-year term as commissioner and will start his 16th in September. In the past decade, he’s been at the forefront of most of the NFL’s hottest stories.

Goodell, 63, is on course to become the NFL’s second-longest-serving commissioner, passing Paul Tagliabue. In 2017, he was given a five-year extension. This agreement, however, maybe his last. Goodell will stand down in 2024, and the NFL will introduce a new commissioner. According to Mike Garafolo, Goodell insists he hasn’t ‘made any determinations’ about whether this would be his last contract or not.
