Motsi Mabuse’s future on Strictly Come Dancing could be in doubt, after she reportedly signed up for a German stage tour that will clash with the show’s run this autumn.

Motsi is also a judge on the German version of Strictly, called Let’s Dance, and is allegedly set to take part in the upcoming theatre tour.

The dancer, who lives in Frankfurt, is thought to be taking part in live dates throughout November, including the Saturdays when Strictly airs in the UK.

The 39-year-old is thought to be negotiating a new contract on the BBC show as the series is set to return in September and the new development could affect her future on the programme, The Sun reports.

A source said: ‘Producers have been pulling their hair out as they struggle to get all of their judges in the right place for the live shows. Motsi’s fans in Germany are buying show tickets expecting to see her live.

‘Pre-Covid it was easy for talent to jet in and out of the UK for the night, but with travel restrictions it’s much harder. Producers want to avoid relying too much on video links, especially as they’re paying big money for talent. It’s a real schedule clash.’

Motsi first joined the show back in 2019, joining her sister and professional dancer Oti Mabuse on the programme.

Oti won the most recent series of Strictly Come Dancing with dancing partner Bill Bailey.

The comedian beat Maisie Smith, HRVY and Jamie Laing in the final. The likes of Ranvir Singh, Nicola Adams, Clara Amfo and Caroline Quentin also took part in the series.

Motsi isn’t the only Strictly judge whose role on the show is under the spotlight.

Bruno Tonioli has reportedly ruled out appearing in person to judge the show this year. The choreographer normally splits his time between the BBC show and Dancing with the Stars in the US.

Meanwhile, the BBC has stood by Strictly Come Dancing after it received complaints that Katya Jones and Nicola Adams depicted a ‘blatant projection of homosexuality’.

Metro.co.uk has reached out to Motsi Mabuse’s representatives for comment. The BBC declined to comment when we approached them.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One later this year.
