Carlos Alcaraz’s Coach Juan Carlos Ferrero Explains the Reason Behind His Foundation
It was the 2003 French Open. Juan Carlos Ferrero was up against Martin Verkerk of the Netherlands in the summit clash. The Spaniard won the biggest trophy of his career, defeating his Dutch opponent in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, 6-2. It was his only Grand Slam title. Fast forward now, Juan Carlos Ferrero has taken up a coaching role and is the current coach of rising Spanish star, Carlos Alcaraz.
Ferrero has had a positive impact on Alcaraz’s career. They began their partnership in September 2018 when Alcaraz was only 15-years-old. Moreover, the former French Open champion has been responsible for Alcaraz’s all-round development, which is quite evident from the way he has performed this season. Recently, Ferrero opened up about why he started his foundation.
Juan Carlos Ferrero, coach of Carlos Alcaraz, talks about his foundation
Earlier this week, Ferrero revealed the motive behind launching his foundation, in a conversation on the ATP Podcast. He said, “I found that I need to make something to help people to go through it and I created a foundation to try to help some of the people that don’t have much to fight against and is very much important for me to have it.”
Tennis players are no strangers to giving back to society through their foundations. Roger Federer, through his foundation, the Roger Federer Foundation, has spent approximately $13.5million to open 81 schools in Malawi. Additionally, other players like Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams have also done charity work through their foundations.

Alcaraz is having the best season of his career this year. After a heart-breaking third-round loss at the Australian Open, he won the ATP 500 Rio Open title. Subsequently, he also clinched the Miami Open and the Barcelona Open titles.

Alcaraz is currently plying his trade at the Madrid Open in his native country. He has reached the quarterfinals and will take on compatriot, Rafael Nadal in the last-eight clash. It will be interesting to see who comes out on the top in this mouth-watering battle.
