‘Can’t Wait to Be There’- Chris Evert Joins Hands With Legendary NCAA Basketball Presenter to Raise Funds for Cancer Research

Chris Evert, the legendary tennis ace, has won 18 Grand Slams and has held the ranking of World No.1 seven times. Further, Everts is the only player in the history of professional tennis to reach the finals of Grand Slams 34 times. The Hall of Famer believes in giving back to society. With the same goal she has also founded Chris Evert charities to eliminate drug abuse and child neglect. Further, Evert’s is a regular at the fundraisers. And now is going to be one of the honorees at this year’s Dick Vitale Gala.

Chris Evert Shares Her Happiness

Chris Evert will be honored alongside Basketball coach Scott Drew and NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson. The event will be held on 6th May at the Ritz- Carlton, Sarasota. Recently, Chris took on Twitter to share Vilate’s post about this year’s target and wrote, “Can’t wait to be there! Honoring and the brave children!” The tennis legend and Vitale, the former basketball coach, are co-workers at ESPN.

Dick Vitale, the 41-year-old American basketball sportscaster, hosts the Dick Vitale Gala every year. Further, the event focuses on raising funds for premier research based on pediatric cancer and simultaneously promoting awareness about the same.

The fundraiser is functional for the past 16 years and has raised 44 million dollars and this year the organizers aim to touch the 50 million dollars mark.

Evert About Her Cancer

Recently, the American tennis professional disclosed that she is suffering from cancer. The 67-year-old has stage 1C Ovarian cancer, which surfaced during her preventive hysterectomy in January. Therefore, to inform her fans, she wrote a letter that said, “I wanted to share my stage 1 ovarian cancer diagnosis and the story behind it as a way to help others. I feel very lucky that they caught it early and expect positive results from my chemo plan.”

In the year 2020, Evert’s younger sister died of ovarian cancer at the age of 62, and when Evert underwent a genetic test which revealed she had BRCA1 genes. Hence, it won’t be wrong to say that there is no one better than her for the Gala.

As she is familiar with the cruelty of cancer and has experienced the struggle that follows the loss of a patient to cancer.
