Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Has the Most Savage Reaction to Sha’Carri Richardson’s Withdrawal From Their Showdown: “It Doesn’t Stop Me..”

The sporting world has been witness to many great sporting rivalries. To name a few, Tiger Woods v Phil Mickelson, Muhammad Ali v Joe Frazier, and Magic Johnson v Larry Bird are some famous rivalries people know about. These rivalries pushed people to become the absolute best in their fields. While we may not have seen many of these individuals face-off, there is one rivalry we are currently a witness to. And that is of Sha’Carri Richardson v Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

In 2021, the track queens dominated the headlines, not only because of their skills but also because of their feud. The two are not really a fan of each other, be it on track or off track. The two athletes were to face each other at the Kip Keino Classic, but the American sprinter chose to retire from the event. However, Shelly-Ann does not seem too bothered with this.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce focused on the race

There was a lot of buzz around this year’s Kip Keino Classic. Fielding the likes of Fred KerleySha’Carri Richardson, and Shelly-Ann amongst others, the event was being considered a major showdown before the World Athletic Championships. However, the withdrawal of Richardson from the event has left the fans disappointed.

But Pryce insists that the withdrawal does not bother her as her focus is on the rest of the field. Talking to the media, Shelly said, “As far as I’m concerned there are seven other competitors in the race that I think deserve the same amount of attention and respect as me because when we each line up to compete I don’t think we are fearful of who is beside us or in the next lane. We are just here to compete and give our best.”

The Jamaican is keener on facing the 200m Olympic silver medalist Christine Mboma.

Adding to her statement, Pryce said, “So, if someone is missing from the competition it doesn’t stop me from focusing on what I’m here to do and getting the job done”. Apart from Mboma, Shannon Ray, Maximilla Imali, Bassant Hemida, Rani Rusius, Patrizia Venderweken, and Javianne Oliver will be a part of the race.

When the track queens faced off in Eugene

Last year, the Eugene race was a highly anticipated event. It was supposed to be one of the greatest redemption stories of the generation. The American sprinter had missed out on a chance to race at the Olympics. She also could not take on Jamaica’s medal-winning trio at the event. A one-month ban due to substance abuse led to Richardson’s absence from the games.

But the redemption did not happen. In a shocking return, Sha’Carri finished last in the event as Jamaica had another clean sweep. The trio of Elaine, Shelly, and Shericka finished in the same positions as they did in Tokyo.

So, yes, we would not see Sha’Carri in the event, but it will feature an exciting race as Shelly will take on Christine Mboma. Are you also looking forward to it? Let us know in the comments section.
