NASCAR Journalist Shuts Down Conspiracy Theories of Teresa Earnhardt Forcing Trackhouse Racing to Alter Their Car Number

Recently, some rumors began making the rounds that Trackhouse Racing altered the #1 car number. This was because many fans wondered about the #1 car having a slash across it. As per the conspiracy, Teresa Earnhardt, wife of the late great Dale Earnhardt, possibly forced the outfit to tweak the number. However, NASCAR journalist Bob Pockrass insisted that he hadn’t heard anything suggesting that she influenced the design.

According to several replies to the original tweet, they were all of the same opinion. Most acknowledged that the number change was merely for stylistic reasons.

Some fans said that she forbade Budweiser from displaying the #8 number in a commercial. That particular commercial was supposed to honor her son Dale Earnhardt Jr. when he announced his retirement. Admittedly, many fans feel that Dale Jr holds more power than his mother. Needless to say, the Trackhouse Racing team was probably doing something right since Teresa Earnhardt has not objected.

Why does Teresa Earnhardt get flack from NASCAR fans?

As far as one story went, Dale Sr’s older son Kerry Earnhardt wanted to establish an “Earnhardt Collection” in 2011. This was supposedly for his and his wife’s Schumaker Homes brand. Unfortunately for Kerry, his mother refused to give up the name rights to him. Owing to that, in May 2012, a dispute broke over the trademark, lasting until February 2016. In the end, Teresa Earnhardt filed a lawsuit against her son to stop him from using his father’s name.

Her lawsuit said, “The naming of any project called ‘Earnhardt Collection’ causes confusion. As being associated with Dale Earnhardt. The Dale Earnhardt brands and marks are so diverse across multiple industries and philanthropic causes.”

Owing to all this, it was a rather unpleasant scenario, and she eventually took a small victory. In other words, no one would be able to trademark the Earnhardt Collection and she owned the rights.
