John Cena Changed Fan Perspective of Will Smith Film After the Latter Left

John Cena is gradually moving up the ranks in Hollywood in recent times after making a huge name in WWE. The 16-time world champion had some significant projects in the past couple of years that have solidified his position in Hollywood.

In the last couple of years, Cena did three major projects and 2 roles. He played the brother of Vin Diesel in F9 and also played the anti-hero of DCEU Peacemaker.

The Peacemaker character played by John Cena in The Suicide Squad got several positive reviews from the critics. This led to the DCEU giving Cena his own Peacemaker series, which was also loved by everyone.

John Cena about changing fan perspective regarding The Suicide Squad movie

If you are a lover of comic book-inspired movies or simply of superhero movies, you will know there was a Suicide Squad movie made in 2016. David Ayer directed it and the movie was financially successful but did not have great reviews from critics.

Last year at the screening of the second installment of Suicide Squad, John Cena spoke with Screen Rant. He talked about changing the fan’s perspective of the previous movie.

Cena said, “That made me want to dive in the son of a bi*ch extra hard. There is no more satisfying situation than to change someone’s mind. And then you look at the people involved in trying to orchestrate that choice. Like I said, I’ve been on James (Gunn) every day. And I think he kind of likes having that chip on his shoulder.”

He added, “He probably won’t admit it, but I think he kind of likes it and he wants to be able to change perception to people who maybe weren’t so happy with the first they saw. It makes it fun. You know, it makes it, there’s a lot at stake because they set precedent a major title that did great money, but at the same time, polarizing.”

“And I was a very polarizing figure in WWE, so I can say the word polarizing. I mean, some people like it, some people don’t. It’s a great challenge. There’s a great risk involved, but nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?” Cena further iterated.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy directed by James Gunn directed the second part. The movie had a recast of Idris Elba in place of Will Smith for the role of Deadshot.

The movie indeed changed fans’ perspective after releasing, how Cena wanted to do. The comic timing added under James Gunn’s direction was highlighted and this installment become one of the most loved movies of DCEU.
