WATCH: Cristiano Ronaldo’s Hat-trick in the 2018 World Cup Against SpainAniket AwasthiEssentiallySports
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest forwards of all time, and he has still got it at 37. The Portuguese forward is currently playing for Manchester United and has been the club’s top scorer this season despite going through a tough season.
Ronaldo’s performances in the UCL have never come under question and he kept the levels high this year too. He single-handedly carried United to the knockout stages with his goals and has done the same several times in the Premier League too.
Cristiano Ronaldo scores an incredible hat-trick
However, this man cannot stay at the top forever and there have been a few signs that Ronaldo is declining. Nevertheless, fans will always remember his greatest performances with awe. One of these performances came in the World Cup in 2018.
Portugal were playing Spain in their group stage match and both the teams had to win the game. Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a penalty, but Diego Costa equalized for Spain in the 24th minute. However, Ronaldo was not going to let that go and scored another goal past David de Gea, who let the ball slip through his hands.
Spain then scored two goals in the second half and were on track to win the match. Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up when it mattered the most and scored one of the best free-kicks in the history of the competition to salvage a draw for his country.

Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United
A player of his caliber and drive would be in demand all around Europe. However, staying at Manchester United is also a distinct possibility for Ronaldo. This season has been his worst in the terms of team achievements and he will miss out on playing in the UCL next year.
However, if he keeps playing like he has been playing in the past few months, he would do well under the new manager Erik Ten Hag. It’ll be interesting to see if he can keep this form up, or whether he’ll stay at United or leave next season.
