The broadcaster made announcement on social media, through the official BBC Casualty account, and confirmed that Amanda Mealing would be back on the drama.
Her character Connie Beauchamp was a fan favourite in both Casualty and Holby City but left the soaps respectively in 2021 and in 2019.
But Amanda won’t be taking her place back in front of the cameras – instead, she will be directing a special episode of Casualty.
The news was confirmed with various behind-the-scenes snaps of Amanda, wearing a navy dotted cardigan and a pair of white trousers.

She completed the outfit with red trainers, chunky headphones and a walkie-talkie as she was seen peering at a screen on set.
“The Queen of Casualty is back”, the caption reads, “Amanda Mealing returned to Holby ED to direct this week’s episode… and what an episode it is!”
Another picture shared in an Instagram story teased this even further, making fans go wild: “Guess who directed this week’s episode…”
In this shot, Amanda could be seen posing with her hands on her hips, a BBC lanyard around her neck, behind a clapper board bearing the episode number, giving directions to various co-stars.

While this was celebrated, Casualty fans remain eager to see Amanda reprise the role of Connie.
“That’s great and all but when is Connie back?!”, one viewer reacted in a post of their own.
Another complained that Amanda was not present for Holby City’s swan song and begged: “Please can Connie come back I was utterly shocked she didn’t appear in the last few episodes of Holby especially as she was so iconic but hoping she comes back to the ED soon.”
A third fan chimed in: “Wish she would come back Connie, you are needed back!”
This isn’t Amanda directing debut as she has already behind the camera on multiple occasions, in 2018 and in 2016.
