Jeremy Clarkson has hit out at Meghan Markle and mocked her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The presenter called Meghan’s chat with Oprah ‘the festival of tears’ as he skewered her tell-all interview on his new ITV show, It’s Clarkson On TV.
The 60-year-old joked about the Duchess ‘breaking wind’ as he opened the first episode of the programme.
‘Meghan Markle was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey. There was a moment where Meghan Markle seemed – how can I put this politely – to break wind,’ he said on the show.
Jeremy then ran a clip which contained the offending sound – which was in fact a noise made by Oprah when agreeing with Meghan’s comments – and added: ‘Sorry can we just hear that again.’
He added: ‘It really does sound like Piers [Morgan] had a point. Her pants really were on fire.’
Jeremy went on to say: ‘Now, I’ve had a note here from the legal department at ITV.
‘They want it to be made plain that that was not a fart, I have no idea how they know that but they want me to make it clear that the fart noise probably came out of Oprah’s mouth.’
Jeremy’s jokes come after Piers Morgan left Good Morning Britain after his comments on the Duchess of Sussex’s interview with Oprah prompted a record-breaking number of complaints to Ofcom.
Following the airing of Meghan and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah, then-Good Morning Britain presenter Piers said that he didn’t believe several of the Duchess’ claims, an opinion that he doubled down on after his exit.
After his comments on Meghan, Jeremy then went on to joke about hit Netflix show Bridgerton.
‘It opened with a horse and cart pulling up outside an agreeable house. All TV period dramas do this,’ he said.
‘It’s a sort of coded warning to men that they will not enjoy any of what follows,’ he said.
It’s Clarkson On TV is available to watch on ITV Hub.
