Jamie Chung passed on a powerful message with the words emblazoned across her purse at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night.

The Lovecraft Country actress, 37, posed before the virtual event in a red off-the-shoulder Oscar de la Renta midi dress and heels.

However, it was her purse that really stood out as she held it up for the camera, clearly showing the words: ‘STOP ASIAN HATE,’ in gold writing.

The Korean American star recently opened up to People about the rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans.

She said: ‘It’s infuriating because discrimination is nothing new for Asian Americans.

‘I think only now people are becoming aware of how bad it’s gotten and it’s disappointing that more media outlets aren’t sharing these stories.’

She added that her ‘community has become more of a target and people are dying. It’s terribly frightening, but there are many Asian activists, allies and organisations that are doing great work to combat anti-Asian hate.

‘We can all do our part to help educate and advocate for each other. We can’t let up until we see real systemic change for all communities of colour.’

Jamie wasn’t the only star to make a statement at the awards overnight – Jason Sudeikis wore a Gucci jumper bearing a feminist slogan at the virtual event.

The Ted Lasso star, 45, raised eyebrows at the Golden Globes in February after donning a tie-dye hoodie for a virtual appearance.

And his latest sartorial choice also caught the attention of viewers as he wore a Gucci jumper emblazoned with the words ‘My Body My Choice,’ a reference to women’s reproductive rights.

While the pullover does not appear to be available on Gucci’s official website, it can be bought elsewhere online for £650.

His previous virtual awards show outfits also had messages behind them.

The Golden Globes hoodie publicised his sister’s New York City dance studio while the top he wore to the Critics’ Choice Awards in March referenced the fictional high school featured in 2019 comedy Booksmart.
