Mike Tyson returning to AEW Dynamite after sparking brawl with Chris Jericho
‘Iron’ Mike Tyson is returning to AEW Dynamite this week almost 11 months after he made his debut on the show.
The Baddest Man On The Planet – who has history in the wrestling business going back to WWE in the Attitude Era – has been announced for tomorrow’s episode, which is going up against the first night of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.
In a statement, Tony Khan – AEW’s CEO, GM and Head of Creative – talked about the importance of having Tyson back, this time in front of a live crowd.
He said: ‘It’s been incredible for our wrestlers, and for those watching at home, to hear the live reactions.
‘This includes events like Kenny Omega winning the AEW World Title, Sting’s surprise arrival, Shaq teaming with Jade Cargill against Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet, The Young Bucks and Darby Allin’s respective championship wins at Full Gear, and so many other magic moments.
‘Likewise, Mike Tyson always commands a massive ovation and the attention of fans worldwide.
‘I’m excited for everyone here in Jacksonville, and for those watching on TNT and around the world, to see what Mike Tyson has in store for AEW.’
Last time ‘Iron’ Mike appeared in a Dynamite ring, he sparked a brawl with Chris Jericho and the Inner Circle.
Nothing more came of it though – but Jericho did suggest a match was on the cards at the time, even if it didn’t pan out that way.
He told Digital Spy: ‘He’s in great mental shape, physical shape and he’s ready to make a comeback. Whether that means a boxing match or whether it means a wrestling match or whatever it could be.
‘He wants to be in the spotlight again and AEW’s the cool place to be. I mean, there’s no doubt about it. I think anybody that watches wrestling knows that and that’s why Mike came to play with us, so to speak.’
Elsewhere on tomorrow’s show, Darby Allin defends his TNT Championship against JD Drake, while Hangman Page battles ‘Platinum’ Max Caster.
Finally, AEW World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks team up with Jon Moxley against AEW World Champ Kenny Omega and IMPACT Wrestling’s Good Brothers.
