Demi Lovato has entered their rock era with the dark and soul-baring video for Skin of My Teeth.

The 29-year-old former pop star – who is distancing themselves from their previous style on upcoming new album Holy Fvck – wasn’t lying when they promised shift into the punk scene.

‘Demi leaves rehab again/When is this s**t gonna end,’ Demi sings as the track kicks in. ‘Sounds like the voice in my head/I can’t believe I’m not dead.’

The singer doesn’t shy away from their battles with addiction and mental health struggles on the song, with an anthemic, heavy chorus leaving nothing on the table.

‘I’m alive by the skin of my teeth/ I survived but it got harder to breathe/ Asking why doesn’t make it easier/ Go easier on me,’ they sing.

‘God damn it I just want to be free/ But I can’t ’cause it’s a f**king disease.’

The video starts with Demi in a bath tub with an ominous figure reading headlines about their rehab visits, and the pair eventually find themselves face to face in a dramatic moment.

By the end of the video, Demi can be seen clad in leather with an electric guitar shooting pyro from the head in the rain in a real rock star moment.

It comes ahead of Holy Fvck’s release in August, with the singer promising a change of direction for the upcoming LP.

The former Disney Channel star said in a recent statement: ‘The process of making this album has been the most fulfilling yet, and I’m grateful to my fans and collaborators for being on this journey with me.

‘Never have I been more sure of myself and my music, and this record speaks that for itself.
